Meet Charm (FL)

ADOPT ME!

Charm, 10 yrs old, fostered in Florida
Rescue ID: 220551-P-B-GA
Intake Date: 03/26/2022
Available Date: 06/01/2022

Hello! I am “Charm”ed to meet you. Well, actually that is my name, Charm. I spent my entire life on a quail plantation until it was decided I needed to retire somewhere else. Fortunately, PointerRescue Org found a foster home for me and I am now living the life I never knew, but I am still looking for my forever retirement home. So let me hand the mike over to my foster mom and let her tell you more about me.

Charm is an 11-year-old lemon and white pointer. She came from a quail plantation who wanted to retire her and turned to PRO find that home. She is a happy tiny (shy of 45 pounds) girl that has a constantly wagging tail and a smile. Although we have no past records on her, it appears that she may have had a few litters of puppies. In fact she has adopted a small red puppy toy that she carries around and takes to bed with her. Other than that she has little interest in other toys unless you want to include lizards. Yeah, she is a bit obsessed with lizards and loves to watch them, point them and try to get them. She hasn’t been successful yet, but that hasn’t deterred her! She spends her days with the lizards and sleeping.

The one hunt test we did with her seemed to show she has little interest, so if you are looking for a senior companion hunter, she is probably not the one.
The greatest challenge we see with Charm is her hearing or lack thereof. For the most part she is deaf. She can hear some sounds and tones and I sometimes can get her attention with a whistle if I am close enough. We have tried working with her on a vibrating collar, but she seems to be collar shy possibly from her plantation days. The advantage of all this is that you can open a bag of potato chips and she won’t come begging. However, if she knows you have food, well, that is a different story. We are attempting to teach her some signs and she seems to catch on although her attention span is limited…..”Oh! Lizard!” We have had some success with her sitting on command and a “come” command, that is if she is not focused on lizards.

Charm is very friendly and affectionate. She gets along with our other pointer and is happy to meet up with the neighborhood dogs through the fence. She will get up and snuggle on the couch and on the bed. However, she tends to want to put her feet in your face so watch out. She also will let you know that it is morning and breakfast time. She doesn’t really talk much except to that dog in the mirror, oven door and dogs on TV.

Being a senior dog, she does have senior issue including arthritis. She has limped some but then will take off full senior speed across the yard. At the moment she is on Dasuquin. She is a healthy eater and will gladly eat her food, your other dog’s food and your food if you let her. She is not aggressive with food although she can be a bit grabby with treats. We are working with her on that.

Charm is ready to charm you. Are you ready for her? Oh yes and her little red puppy is a part of the deal! Fill out an adoption application.
