Meet Myah

Myah is a sweet timid girl who is 2 1/2 years old. Her owner passed away and she was surrendered to the shelter. We were asked to take her as she was so terrified and was reactive out of fear.
We have no idea what happened in her previous home, but certain movements terrify her and cause her to hide under a couch or bed.

Here is what her foster mom has to say:

This is Myah and she is sweet, adorable, loving and endearing. She is the ultimate lap dog! If you are lonely she will keep you company every second of everyday. You must take her with you into the bathroom and when you take a shower, she will poke her head through the curtain too make sure you are okay. Maya gives great hugs and will greet you and hug your leg when you get home.

Myah is super smart and responds to your voice when gently corrected.
She is potty trained, but you must watch for her cues that she wants to go out

These are all the wonderful things about her, but Myah was not always like this. When I brought her home she growled when I tried to approach and she growled at other people as well. Some people would see this as aggression, but what I saw and came to find out was that she was extremely scared and unsure because she was taken away from what she has known for the two and a half years she's been alive.
It took a little while for her to come around. She was afraid of noises and afraid that I was going to hurt her. When I folded towels that came out of the dryer or when I made sudden movements, used the wrong tone of voice, these things would cause her to run and hide under my bed. When she was afraid I would sit down and wait for her to come to sit on my lap.
Once Myah comes out of her shell she is the most pleasant and caring companion anybody could wish to have.

Myah's ideal home is with someone who is not gone for long hours.
She is able to be crated for naps and at night but is still learning to self soothe and will whine for a while before settling. She prefers your bed or lap.
She is okay with older calm children, but little kids scare her and she is a flight risk so for those reasons she will not be placed in a home with children under 12.

Myah takes a little while to warm up to new people and is a huge flight risk when scared. She is not to be left outside unattended EVER!!

Fence is a must.
Due to her whining when left alone she will not make a good apartment dog.

Home checks and vet references will be done. Myah will require a few visits before adopting her so she will know the person she is going home with.

She is vaccinated, spayed and microchipped.
