Meet Muffin

Muffin arrived early 2nd week of July. On a Monday. I remember that much. This girl was angry and hot. Touch by any one person or animal was unacceptable. Sharing what she felt was her space that too was not tolerated.
She was injured which only exasperated her hurting spirit. Who knows why she hated everyone? We just know whatever reason she had, they were valid, justifying her distrust in everyone. We know she was rescued and adopted out, then surrendered to a shelter, then rescued again, landing in a foster home, and then us as a foster when she was severely hurt by the larger dogs in the home. Muffin (A name that does not suit her at all) has bitten and attacked not just me but almost every dog and cat in our care. It is not severe as we never let our guard down and are thankful our pack knows better than initiate. Fast forward 2 months. Her physical wounds are 99% healed. However, her heart, soul, mind, and spirit are mostly healed. She's whole again. She's happy. She's willing. She's interacting. And open to participate and joins in group play, tries anyway. She even initiates play. Mostly she the coach and referee. This here made possible by the power of the pack. Is she ready right now? Possible for the right home. Does she need lots of work still? Absolutely, but she's willing, and that there was most of the mountain that needed to be climbed.

Muffin is 3 years of age, about 13 pounds, give or take spicy sassy papillon chi mix. Her heart is guarded but willing. She gravitated toward men easily but was accepting of women, too. She thrives in an environment that offers boundary affirmation, routine structure, confident discipline, and nurturing but still in an assertive way. Unfortunately, no children of any age as kids can be overwhelmingly rambunctious, which will annoy her. A muffin would be best in a confident balance pack. One who will tolerate ignore and not take her issues personally. Muffin is good with cats, dogs, bunnies farm critters big and small. She loves car rides and walks 2 miles without hesitation. Loves to dig holes, roll in dirt and mud is fun, and learn to play with others and discover toys. Muffin is a food-treat motivated, big time. She has medium-low energy. She does not snuggle and cuddle but is accepting of being held or sitting by us. Routine is important for her. Someone home mostly or who can take her to work. She is 100% house and crate-train and one who appreciates her space and independence. Not much of a yuppie barker unless she needs to communicate a need.

Muffin is house and crate-trained and walks great on and off leash. Her recall is pretty good. Muffin is up to date on 1 or 3 years of all age-appropriate core vaccines including lepto, and corona, as well as the rabies vaccine, dewormed, fecal tested negative, microchipped ready to be registered, spay/neutered, heartworm lyme tested negative within 6 -12 months and current on monthly heartworm flea/tick prevention year round.

Out-of-state adopters are welcome at the adopter's expense. We do NOT ship, and a minimum of 2 meet and greet is required before adoption unless you are a previous adopter.

Previous adopters of AHRs have the first choice and are not expected to pay another adoption fee again. Donation of their choice.

Training is an ongoing process that needs to be worked on daily. New issues and opportunities arise daily that have to be addressed and or rewarded. Continued training is a purity setting them up for success.
