Meet Monty
Monty hit the jackpot! He is living with his new family in Palmyra, PA!
This is the story of Monty, a special 3-4 year old boy who has come a very long way since coming to the rescue almost a year ago. He was picked up by animal control in rural Virginia were he had been seen wandering loose for several months. When he came to the rescue he was in rough shape: very underweight, almost no coat, numerous parasite infections, and very anxious & scared of everything.
Monty spent a lot of time in isolation where he won the hearts of the amazing staff who got him back to good health so that he could be ready to move to a foster home. When he finally moved to a foster home, everything about being in a house was new to him and it took him a number of weeks to acclimate to the sights, sounds, smells, and routine of being in a house and his new neighborhood.
While he did gain the trust of his foster family early on, he is still very anxious about many things. Daytime walks with the sight of other people, bikes, buses, and dogs from afar get him wound up. His foster realized that they just needed to manage the behavior and adjust. The result: Monty is pretty much a big lug around the house. Low key for the most part spending his day just lounging around the house keeping his people close, looking for chin rubs, napping, supervised romps in the yard and night time walks.
He's crate trained, knows some basic commands, doesn't have any separation issues, not a chewer but loves to work on his beef bone when given the chance.
He's come a long way but he's still a work in progress. We're thinking that the best home for him would be low key, set in a more rural setting - without too much outside stimulation - and a family with knowledge and patience that will allow him to continue his adjustment and just be the great dog he is.
