Meet Molly
Molly, an adorable and gentle 1.5-year-old beagle, is seeking a special forever home with a patient and loving family. Although she has made incredible progress, Molly still needs to be treated as a timid dog that requires slow and steady nurturing and continued exposure and training. Her journey has transformed her from a feral past while in a year-long foster care placement, and she now needs a consistent environment that nurtures her confidence and encourages the development of her social skills.
While she is no longer fearful of new situations or sounds, Molly may still startle or retreat when unsure. However, she now confidently greets new people with tail wags and is open to being petted with continued encouragement. Ideally, Molly would thrive in a household with two or more pets, where she can learn from the pack's guidance, comfort, and support. Weighing under 20 pounds and already fully grown, Molly is likely a pocket beagle.
With a sweet-natured personality, Molly is curious and playful. Her development continues to improve with more life experiences and exposure. Through her interactions with other dogs, her nurturing and cuddly personality shines. She enjoys cuddling with the other dogs, cats, and her foster family and prefers curling up next to you or in your lap. While she remains unsure about being held or picked up, this mustn’t be forced.
Molly is housebroken and crate-trained and has good leash manners; however, safety precautions are necessary over the long term. She should always wear a harness with a leash and a martingale collar with a second leash for her safety. Her recall is progressing, but continued practice is needed. When called, Molly will usually come, especially if she is with other dogs. However, her curious nature can distract her, so shaking a bag of treats often helps get her attention. After all, she is a hound.
For her safety and well-being, Molly needs a securely fenced yard. She can be quick, so ensuring she is secured before entering or exiting the house is crucial. Molly gets excited during meal times and eats in her crate to prevent her from gulping down her food and others, as this is common behavior for hounds, especially since she had to fend for herself in cornfields for quite some time.
By joining an established pack, Molly’s confidence will continue to flourish, enhancing her trust and social skills. Continued training, socialization, puppy classes, and group walks are encouraged to support her growth.
Molly is great with dogs, cats, and children of all ages, though we feel more confident placing her in a home without children or with mature children over the age of 10.
Transitioning to a new family and environment may require extra precautions, consistency, rewards, and nurturing. Molly is ready to move on to the next chapter of her life, with a loving home and family to call her own.
Molly is a sweet, gentle, beautiful soul who loves being part of a pack and enjoys her community of pets in her foster home. She is eager to begin her journey with her forever family. Could that be you?
