Meet Mira

Mira was rescued after spending 5 months at animal control awaiting her previous owners’ court case. She was initially confiscated by police on animal cruelty charges, and thankfully was relinquished into our care. Now that she is safe and well, she is seeking a loving home.

Mira turned 9 years old in February, but don’t let that fool you- this gal says age is just a number! She comfortably jumps in the back seat of the car, runs up and down the house stairs, walks healthy distances, and enjoys a few minutes of backyard zoomies. She is a quiet companion (rarely barks) and will settle for long naps (she loves naps) while you work at your desk or relax on the couch.

Mira weighs around 80 lbs and is house-trained. She hasn’t shown much interest in toys or balls, but she loves walks. We know that she previously lived with other dogs and cats, but she is currently fostered as an only pet and is doing well in that environment too. When her foster mom has taken her for a walk with neighbor dogs, Mira will correct obnoxious behavior from other dogs and prefers the company of calmer or less intense dogs that are more interested in sniffing than playing or jumping.

Mira loves her person and will follow you around everywhere you go. She has some separation anxiety when you leave the house without her, so she would prefer a family who spends a lot of time at home. Her anxiety presents through her whining and searching when you’re gone. She requires a durable crate (e.g., Impact or hard plastic) as she’s smart enough to break out of the wire crates. Early into her foster stay, she found an opportunity to garbage surf when left home alone uncrated. However, since then, her foster family has left her uncrated multiple times with no issue as long as the garbage is behind a closed door and the food is put away.

Mira had a mammary tumor removed during her recent spay surgery, and while the doctors noted that the tumor was malignant, they were confident that they removed it all! She is taking a preventative joint supplement given her age and occasionally showcased mild allergies (variations of a cytopoint injection, apoquel meds, baths, and no poultry helped).

Mira is a sweet soul. She is submissive and would benefit from a calm household. She has accepted new people into the home without issue. She is sometimes a little scared of lots of commotion or certain strangers. She is learning what affection is from her foster family and will allow handling when needed. She would likely do best in a home with older or no children. Mira is treat-motivated and knows how to sit and wait for her leash and food.

Mira is a sweet senior gal who overcame a tough life. Despite that, she is a kind soul that deserves a second chance. In this next chapter of her life, she would love a comfy dog bed, companionship, and a few good walks.
