Meet Minnie

Minnie - (female) DOB approx 2020

Picked up stray in the park but never claimed by an owner she is now available for adoption. Minnie is a people dog and loves the water. She often has her feet in her water bucket at the shelter! Loved having a pool out for her to splash in over summer months. She's very energetic and appears to have had at least one litter of pups previously. We believe she's likely 3-4 years old. Unsure of her breed mix but she looks like there maybe a touch of doberman in there. She's so active it's hard to get decent photos of her as she is constantly on the move at the shelter, wanting to visit and let the other dogs know she is there! She isn't a dog that kennels well so doesn't show well in the building but when she's away from the shelter chaos she's a different dog - well behaved, has nice manners and loves to get out and about for a shopping trip or bath at the pet store. She acts dominantly with some dogs at the shelter fence, females more so than males, but that is likely due to the lack of regular exercise to wear her out and the frustration that comes with being kenneled full time. She is a higher energy dog and should move to a new home that can keep her well exercised.

Volunteers took multiple shelter dogs out for leashed hikes over August long weekend and Minnie got to go on the last day. Minnie got into the vehicle with some help and rode loose in the back of the car with female Carly and did fine. She wanted to be at the front of the pack and walk quickly She was good with the other dogs on the walk. Minnie finally got her spa day in November. She has impeccable manners. She was a little nervous at the start but got comfy real quick. She didn't cry, bark or mind the blow dryer. She was perfectly fine with a big black lab getting bathed beside her. She also went for a recent trip to Lloydminster and did well in the car and was well behaved when shopping in town. Minnie is a gem that needs time to show you that she can be a great partner - she will be a dog that we recommend is taken on a trial basis so you can see her real personality shine in a home away from the shelter stress.

Dec 1/24 -a Volunteer took her home for a day out of the shelter; updates so far; -she is super polite
-doesn’t care about the kitties in the home
-can’t do my stairs, but didn’t mind me picking her up and carrying her up. I will try to teach her stairs once she is more comfortable.
-she may not understand how to give signals that she needs to go out for bathroom business yet.
Update on Minnie after a couple days in the volunteer's home:
She’s now ok with the stairs.
Hasn’t had even 1 accident in the house. But she needs encouragement to go pee or poop in my backyard. If I just let her outside without going with her, she’ll just stay at the door until I come get her.
She kennels very well while I’m at work. Longest she is ever left in it is 4hrs. I have a furbo and I check it often and she hasn’t made a peep while in the kennel.
She walks very well on the leash.
She loves to try play with the kitties. Only one though will play with her. I feel like she would need to be in a home with a dog savvy cat. She can get a bit overly excited when playing. So I supervise them and don’t let them be alone together.
She loves to play fetch! She brings the ball back and waits for me to throw it.

She is definitely a very different dog at home than she is in the shelter. Kennel stress at the shelter causing her to act much differently.

She was spayed Aug 22/24.

Regular adoption fee for dogs is $300; if the dog is too young for spay/neuter prior to adoption then a $300 post dated spay/neuter deposit cheque (OR PAD form) is also required - we don't cash this cheque but hold it until cheque date and proof of S/N surgery provided by the date on the cheque - typically when the pup is 6 months of age. Occasionally we adopt out particular animals at fundraising prices to help offset our vet bills, each fundraiser dog will be posted as such with the adoption fee noted. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter and rabies ONLY if surgery is done with our Meadow Lake vet; otherwise adopters are responsible to pay those fees at their own vets.
