Meet Minka

Blue- eyed Minka is a great example of why people love the beauty and great temperament of the Catahoula breed, with some Shiba Inu in the mix to attain the smaller size that people are searching for. Minka appears to be one of these popular miniature herding dogs that are opportunistically bred for their smaller size, gorgeous markings and engaging temperaments.

At almost one year old (such a great age..young enough to have many, many active and healthy years ahead and old enough to be beyond babyish behaviors) and a tiny 21 lbs, Minka is perfect for fun activities with her family. Once comfortable in her surroundings, she is open and curious to learn about the world. Sweet Minka is a loyal and loving girl who bonds hard and respects those that are kind and loving to her.

Minka had a tough early start in life and ended up homeless in Texas through no fault of her own. She was picked up by animal control and brought to a high-kill Houston shelter where she was immediately scheduled for euthanasia due to a lack of space.

Sweet Minka has a spirit about her that caught the attention of compassionate Texas rescuers. They saved her at the very last minute from euthanasia and fell in love with her sweetness and kind, but initially shy nature. They knew that once she acclimated, she would be a natural companion for a Colorado family. They pictured her joy at hiking the Colorado trails and then, once over her shyness, crashing at day's end for snuggles and loving words.

Farfel's Rescue is searching for a dog-crazy family that shares Minka's desire for a quiet environment. She loves her people more than anything but visitors coming and going frequently doesn't speak to her natural desire for order and peaceful times alone enjoying her family.

It has become clear to us that our sweet Minka would do best as an only dog (or with a kind dog that has a very calm and sweet nature) in an uncomplicated home that is quiet and respectful.. She will be a wonderful best friend and loyal companion for an active family that enjoys spending their time with a fuzzy best friend.

Minka will thrive with a family that chooses to to participate in virtual or in-person positive reinforcement / force-free training classes. This experience is so important in teaching the skills for Minka to successfully accompany her family out in the community with excellent behavior. Farfel's will provide a list of approved positive reinforcement/force free trainers in your area.

Minka can be relied on, once confident in her surroundings, to share her love and best behavior with her people. As her confidence grows, Minka blossoms into a devoted best friend who wants nothing more than to share time, play and learning new skills with a kind and committed family. We feel that a full-time workday outside of the home for her people won't work for Minka. She thrives on family-time and being at home while her people works full-time isn't in the best interest of this devoted companion.

This active girl will be very in-sync with a family that includes her in dog-friendly adventures, backyard fun, exploring the Colorado mountains, going boating on a lake or window shopping on Pearl Street to learn urban skills. These all will be great adventures for Minka as she grows and learns.

Minka's foster mom sent along this summary on our sweet girl...Minka is initially a very shy pup that with a bit of time and patience, falls deeply in love with her people. An uncomplicated home with a family that absolutely loves their dog is perfect for our Minka. I'm sold on this sweet little dog and know she'll be a great partner for a dog-loving Colorado family.

Minka has been vetted and vaccinated to honor our commitment to only adopting out healthy dogs. She has also been spayed to continue our efforts toward zero population growth in the canine community.

Minka has gorgeous brindle markings against pure white that are consistent with her breed mix. She will require a lifelong commitment to periodic baths/brushing and great nutrition (Five star food and a daily salmon oil supplement are recommended for longevity and coat care). With this regimen, Minka's coat will be cottony-soft and gorgeous in its beauty and good health.

Minka is currently in a foster home in the Denver area. Applications are currently being accepted for this sweet and very loving best friend and can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-res. cue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit.

**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Minka please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in most cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
