Meet Miel! This girl is true to her name, sweet and cuddly and eager to please! Miel previously had a loving family who took care of her and brought her in to be spayed by our partner rescue in Mexico. After the successful operation, her family opted to surrender her to the rescue. She has since made her way to Canada to find her forever family.

Miel is a real sweetheart and her fosters describe her as loving, smart, excitable, and eager to please. Her favourite things are cuddling, being close to her people, chewing on stuffies, going on walks and keeping those pesky birds and squirrels in line. She is a true lap dog and always wants to be as close to you as possible. She will slide up onto the couch and give you kisses. She is always happy when her fosters get home and will leap onto the couch for snuggles. She really wants to show her good girl nature and will sit politely to get your attention.

Miel bonded quickly with her fosters and is snuggly and loving. She is, however, apprehensive of new people in the home and will growl to indicate she needs space. She can be won over by treats and ignoring her, and creating a safe space where she can be left alone. Her forever home will have to keep this in mind and advocate for her space and comfort with any visitors in the home.

Miel really loves getting out for her walks. She currently gets 3 walks a day for about 20-30 minutes, plus some pee breaks and time to play in the yard. She is a puller on leash because she has a strong prey drive for small critters. Miel can be reactive to people, dogs, and cars and will start barking and trying to chase. Miel’s fosters are working on this and will usually keep her leash short when she is close to a trigger and calm her down using sit and down commands. Her forever family should be prepared to work on some leash reactivity with her so she can be supported and learn that outside does not need to be so overwhelming.

Miel lives with another dog and they coexist well. Miel finds comfort in his presence but they are not overly playful. She may be more playful with a different dog. She is fed separately from the resident dog as she does guard her food and will growl if he gets too close. She may also guard her people if she is on the couch with them and the other dog approaches. Her fosters are working on this with her. Miel is looking for a home without cats or other small critters as she will definitely chase. Miel has not been tested with children. She would likely bond with children in the home but she would not like a busy home with lots of people going in or out so an adult-only home, or a home with older children who can give her space would be best.

Miel currently stays home most days with her dog foster brother. She is not crated but is kept out of the kitchen and other parts of the house. She stays in the living room with her foster bro and settles quickly. She has only been left alone once and was distraught and vocal. If Miel joins a family as the only dog she will need practice being left alone and would probably not do well being left on her own for a full work day.

Miel is a very smart little cookie. She is working on basic training and knows sit, touch, and her name. She is eager to learn and food-motivated so training is really fun. She is working on her leash manners but is otherwise a real dream girl. Miel would do best in a quieter neighbourhood and living with a few devoted people. She is an incredible companion and would love nothing more than to be her loyal and loving self with the right family.
