Merrick Boxer & Labrador Retriever Mix Eaton, OH

Merrick is 2 years old, Boxer/Lab (did someone say Pit?), good with other dogs and cats, but too skittish to accept young children with erratic movements, though he would probably do well with older kids.

Many of you may remember Merrick who came to us May 8 after suffering a gunshot wound that left him with a gaping hole in his shoulder. His rehabilitation has been long and slow, but miraculously his leg was saved and he has no physical limitations. He is still leery of men and a sharp banging noise makes him cower and tremble. He is slow to trust, though who can blame a dog that has been shooed away and shot at over the course of many months. He has learned to trust the staff here at our shelter, and he will learn to trust the person who is willing to give him the calm security he deserves. Since Merrick has learned to flee from his predators (people), he will need a physical fence that is 5 feet tall. Merrick will be a project, but so worth it when he looks at you with those beautiful blue eyes and you see the love he has to give.
