Meet MAXIMUS
say about him.
Max is an easygoing and calm young man. He loves being outside, whether it's walking, hiking, running, frolicking on the beach, or just sitting in a park. Afterwards, he equally enjoys snuggling up on the couch and napping the day away. He's been in a foster home for about 1.5 months now and has been so easy to care for.
Max is a great mix of social, silly, and sleepy. This boy can hike and run for hours with ease but will also fall off the couch and bump his head on furniture regularly, all with a big smile on his face. He loves giving kisses on the face, resting his head in your lap, and receiving belly rubs. He's also the perfect gentleman when meeting other dogs. He always wants to say hi but immediately responds to other dogs' boundaries. He is not reactive on the leash and will easily continue walking if he can't say hi to every furry friend.
Max had a tough relationship with humans in the beginning of his life. He was found beaten up on the streets before a good samaritan rescued him. Despite this, Max is extremely friendly and gentle when meeting new people and has even calmly met young children and babies. Max needs a forever family who will understand that he sometimes feels threatened by larger men in the house and will need proper introductions and training to learn that people will be nice to him. Max has recently had several successful introductions with men in the house and just needs some support in feeling safe. He's also been an amazingly patient and generous older brother to his foster sister, who can be quite the bundle of energy. He shares his toys, plays with her gently, displays no food aggression, and likes to snuggle on the couch near her and watch her antics.
Max is super food-motivated (pumpkin and peanut butter are some of his favorites) and has already learned "sit", "down, "stay, and "leave it. He is house-trained, great on the leash, has strong recall off the leash, and a comfortable passenger in the car.
Though he is a curious boy, bikes, small children, birds, squirrels, skateboards, and busy streets don't phase him. He even took a trip to the hair salon with his foster parents once and calmly waited by the chair amidst the commotion of other customers, blow dryers, and unfamiliar smells. He loves being out and about and would really enjoy being incorporated into his adopters' daily routine. Max would thrive in a home where he can lay out in the sun and get daily walks or trips to the park.
