Matilda aka Tilly is an approximate 5-month-old, female, 25 lb., Shepherd. She is a local owner surrender. Tilly's life started out rough when she was taken in by some young people that had no idea how to care for a puppy. She was malnourished and kenneled most of the time before she was abandoned with another family. That family reached out to Hope for help and we brought her into our care. Tilly does exhibit some food aggression with other dogs due to her having been starved before coming to Hope, but she is living with a dog trainer who is working on this issue. She does well with other dogs other than being possessive of her food and seems to do well with cats. She needs continued good experiences with cats to make sure her natural prey drive doesn't kick in. She has a shy demeanor, due to her lack of socialization early on, but working on her confidence every day. She has officially mastered walking on a leash so working on that socialization will be much easier. She's not a dog for a first-time handler and will require further training and confidence-based work. Tilly is doing well with house training in her foster home. We are looking for a family that has experience owning working dog breeds with a fenced yard, is active, has another dog that can help Tilly progress in her confidence, and is willing and able to put in the work to bring out Tilly's full potential.
