Meet Mater
*** Mater is currently in a trial adoption! ***
This handsome dog is Mater, a 2-3 year old male German Shepherd/heeler mix. Here is an update from his foster at Hot Diggity Dog Camp!
"Mater is a handsome and charming fella with a brilliant mind and an amazing sense of humor. There is never a dull moment with this kid around. He has endless energy and loves a good adventure. A tennis ball and a good treat are the best things on this earth, if you ask him. He also enjoys enrichment activities such as Kong's, wobblers, Hol-ee rollers, well, basically anything you can think of. Mater will thrive in a very active home with playmates and stimulation. You know you have done your job and worn him out when he comes to you for cuddles. He has so much love and life to give; he will truly brighten someone's world. He can be a little shy/leery of men on first meeting. It takes him a little time to warm up and feel comfortable but play a game of fetch and Mater usually will feel just fine about a guy. We adore him here at HDDC. "
We are guessing this mix cause of the interesting markings on his coat
remind us of a healer and his body size. But his head and coloring look
like a German Shepherd. Mater has a thick black and brown coat and weighs
38 pounds and this is full grown.
He was pulled from our local Animal Shelter where he had been picked up as a stray and down there over a month and no one came to claim him.
Mater is very sweet natured and enjoys being with his person. He is a little shy and reserved on first meeting but we are really seeing his fun personality come to life the longer we have him. He can be very energetic and excited and then he settles down nicely. But he will need daily exercising and room to run so a fenced in yard will be required for Mater. We don't see him doing as well in an apartment unless he gets daily long walks or runs.
Mater tested well with other dogs and should be fine with children, 10 and over, maybe not younger due to his size. We don't think he was socialized a lot so new experiences like getting in the car has him nervous so will just have to be patient and help him gain confidence with his new surroundings. We have started his crate training.
Mater is up to date on his vet care, neutered, heartworm negative
and microchipped. He is on heartworm and flea/tick prevention. Such a cool
looking dog, his owner will be so proud to own Mater!
