Meet Marty
Personality & Behavior
Marty is a bundle of joy with a high energy level. He spends his days romping around with dog friends, playing with toys, kongs, and bones, and then crashing on the couch in various odd positions when it's time to relax. He has a quirky habit of sitting on people, which adds to his goofy charm. While he has typical bark triggers like visitors or knocking at the door, he isn't an excessive barker. When meeting new people, Marty may initially bark out of concern, but he quickly transforms into a loving, attention-seeking cuddlebug once he feels comfortable. His ideal introduction involves being acknowledged and then ignored until he warms up.
Training & Compatibility
Marty is already housetrained, walks well on a leash, and knows basic commands like "sit," "paw," and "take nice." He's a smart boy who is eager to learn and thrives on positive reinforcement. Marty adores other dogs and loves kids, but due to his puppy-like behaviors--such as jumping and mouthing--he would be best suited for a home with older children or dog-savvy youngsters. He hasn't been tested with cats, so a proper introduction would be necessary if there are feline friends in his future home. His playful nature makes him a great companion for another active dog.
Daily Life & Exercise Needs
Marty's typical day is full of activity and fun. He starts his mornings with a walk and enjoys waking up the kids in the household before breakfast. His afternoons are filled with playtime and naps, often engaging in playful antics with a neighbor dog. He loves car rides and playing with durable toys--anything that keeps him entertained. Marty needs regular exercise to burn off his energy, whether through daily walks, play sessions with another dog, or access to a fenced yard. An active household with someone who works from home or isn't away for long stretches would be ideal for him, as he's still adjusting to being left alone and does not like being crated for extended periods.
Favorite Moments & Special Traits
Marty's story is a heartwarming one. He was rescued from a shelter on the very day he was scheduled to be put down. Since then, he's experienced many "firsts" that have brought joy to his foster family--his first roll in the leaves, his first snowfall, his first car ride, and even his first Christmas with toys to open. One of his funniest moments was watching him cautiously investigate his first blueberry, suspiciously pushing it around the floor before finally giving in. His unique flip-flop ears (one up, one down) and the little white freckle on his nose make him all the more endearing.
Care Needs & Ideal Home Environment
Marty's current diet consists of Taste of the Wild, and he absolutely adores treats. His grooming needs are minimal, as he has a short coat and isn't much of a shedder. However, he does require a family committed to continuing his behavior training to help him grow into the best version of himself.
The ideal home for Marty would be an active household with another playful dog. He would do best in a home with a securely fenced yard or other ways to get regular exercise. Marty thrives on companionship, so a family who isn't away for long periods would be perfect for him. While he loves kids, he'd do better with older children who understand dog behavior and won't be intimidated by his excitement.
Adoption Considerations
Potential adopters should be prepared for a puppy-like dog who still has some growing up to do. Marty may take some time to settle into his new home, but with patience, consistency, and training, he will flourish. He is eager to please, smart, and full of love to give to the right family.
If you're looking for a loyal, playful, and loving companion who will keep you entertained and make every day special, Marty is your guy. With his bright golden hazel eyes and boundless enthusiasm for life, Marty is sure to steal your heart.
