Marlo is a very special boy indeed. We can say with certainty that he isn't the dog for everyone. In fact, most people wouldn't know how to channel his high drive personality. But for the right person who understands the trait, Marlo would be the perfect fit!
You see a high drive dog needs a job to do. They have a focused intensity, a desire to work, that makes them overcome all obstacles in pursuit of the goal. A high drive dog needs plenty of mental and physical stimulation to prevent boredom and to expend their physical energy.
This is where the problem lies. With Marlo in a kennel, he has become frustrated and deeply bored. He has begun to act out, most notably by being inappropriately mouthy. With lack of regular stimulation, he gets super worked up when even the smallest amount of stimulation is introduced.
Marlo is very smart and does follow basic commands. We are certain that he would excel with an experienced owner that can provide the training, stimulation and consistency needed for a high drive dog.
A trainer recently assessed Marlo and felt he was just a very smart but frustrated dog who would blossom with the right owner. A group of dedicated volunteers have been working with him each day and he is doing amazing. But he needs a home with experience training and working with young, bright and active dog.
We are committed to trying to find the best permanent placement for the boy we have all come to love. If you would like more information please send us an email at hopeformarlo@gmail.com Do not contact the shelter as he is not available for adoption through them. This is simply a courtesy post.
