Meet Maggy
Poodle mix | 10 years old | Female | 23 lbs
*We cannot guarantee breed nor age.
Temperament: Gentle, cuddly, easy going.
Activity level: Low energy.
Vetting: Core vaccines (DH2PP, Rabies, Bordetella), spayed, microchipped, dewormed, fecal (negative), 4DX blood test for tickborne diseases & heartworm disease (negative for everything but ehrlichia - which is a non-issue as she was fully treated in 2019) + full blood panel (normal), on flea/tick/heartworm prevention, echocardiogram (stable), radiographs.
Maggy has been diagnosed with mitral valve heart disease. Her heart disease is stable at present, and she takes a medication for this called Pimobenden. She will need to have her heart assessed every 6-12 months via echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart) and she will need to take pimobenden longterm.
Maggy is blind. Things to remember with a blind dog are to maintain routines as much as possible as this can help them adjust. Keep your furniture in the same spots to make it easier for Maggy to navigate your home. If you redecorate, or when you bring her to a new place, bring her carefully around the area to show her obstructions. Because Maggy can’t see, make sure that any potential dangers such as swimming pools or staircases are blocked off with fences or baby gates to prevent falls. When choosing toys, you can utilize her other senses and opt for toys that squeak, rattle and make noise when they move. Maggy has cataracts and she has glaucoma in her right eye. She takes a non-steroidal eye drop for this but if at any point her eye appears red/inflamed or she is squinting this should be evaluated by your veterinarian.
Housebroken: Yes!
Good with Dogs: Probably with a proper introduction period. Lived with another dog previously.
Good with Cats: Currently lives in a house with a cat and is totally fine.
Good with Children: Yes.
Any noted prey drive: No.
How do they respond to the outdoors: Likes to go on walks outside. Seems acclimated to traffic and downtown streets.
Crate-Trained: Not tested.
Any resource guarding: None observed.
Response to commands: Moderately - needs a bit of coaxing.
Are they vocal: She will bark when she senses another dog around her, almost as if to say hi. Sometimes also barks when awaiting food and if her human is not getting it fast enough. She will whine if she’s excited to go outside and her human isn’t moving fast enough too.
Leash Etiquette: Walks well on leash!
Transportation: Is fine with it, no reaction.
*Maggy’s bio may change as we get to know her better.
*Comes with 6 weeks of pet insurance totalling $500 and 2 free online group training classes.

Meet Maggy, aka Mags! Her foster family describes her as incredibly gentle, cuddly and easy going. She loves to be around her humans all the time, even if it’s just laying at their feet while they’re working or a buddy to hang out on the couch with. She especially loves to have her belly rubbed and to rest her head on your shoulder, stomach or leg when you're laying down together. When Maggy gets excited for food or is ready to go out, she wiggles her whole body and does little hop-ups with her front paws – her foster fam says this is just one of her adorable habits. In fact, they describe her as the “sweetest, easiest dog I’ve ever had” and that it’s “near impossible not to just love on her all the time!” Her foster fam also notes that it’s pretty easy to keep her happy, and that she’ll overwhelmingly give it back to you in return.
Maggy’s ideal forever home will give her all the love and cuddles she deserves, and the calmness and stability in her later life. As she is older and has a low activity level, she doesn’t need a ton of exercise (e.g. she would do well living in an apartment). Ideally, she likes going for a few shorter walks, or a big 30-45 minute one. That being said, Maggy would still enjoy coming on outdoor adventures with you, even if it’s just in the car. While she did live with another dog previously, she seems to have gotten used to living alone now. She would likely however, get used to living with a dog again with a slow and patient introduction period. She does well with cats as well as with children. In accordance with her vetting, Maggy requires 2 pills and 2 eyedrops per day and has an allergy to chicken. She does, however, make it very easy to work around that stuff as she isn’t fussy.
