Meet Maggie
Maggie is a beautiful and sweet 5 month old pup. She was adopted at about 3 months and did well in her new home, but family issues intervened and she was returned to PUP to find her forever home. This is what Maggie’s mommy had to say:
“Maggie is extremely bright and curious. She loves her puzzle treat feeders and trying to get all the yummy treats out. She's also very fond of taking every piece of fluff'n'stuff out of her Lamb Chop toys very methodically piece by piece. She's a cuddler and likes to cuddle on the sofa at night or just lean against you when getting pets. She loves lots of pets from anyone willing to give them. Although a puppy, she's not overly energetic and will sleep the day away while mom is working from home or chill and chew on a toy. She's happy in her crate and goes in it willing at bedtime and keeps it clean and dry 6-7 hours both overnight and during the day when needed. Maggie is not fully house broken. Her adopter will need to focus consistent attention on that in the next month or so. She has attended puppy daycare and she comes home TIRED.
She has done well in an apartment and doesn't bark at all during the day. She has given a few alert wuffs when mom was home and there was a loud, unusual noise in the hallway. She is good with cats and kids.”
We had DNA testing done on one of Maggie’s brothers. She is quite the mix with 16 distinct breeds. The only one in double digits is German Shepherd at 43%. She also has Australian Cattle dog, Border Collie, Belgian Malinois, Australian Shepherd, Collie, Husky, Malamute, Chow, Akita, Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Terrier, Springer Spaniel, Golden Retriever, Labrador Retriever and Cocker Spaniel. In other words, mixed breed.
The early months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Adopters should be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, hearing vacuums, trucks, and rattling garbage cans, meeting people who are clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards. AND puppy needs many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Just sharing a home with another dog is not as much doggie socializing as puppy needs. If good canine social skills are not learned and maintained during these early months, it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store, puppy socialization classes and later, obedience classes are particularly important. If all this doggie time and involvement seems like a good idea, you are up for a puppy! As always, a tired dog is a good dog.
Maggie has been vet checked, is fully vaccinated and de-wormed. We do place puppies outside the metro area if a firm plan for the alter surgery is in place; we do not ship. Her required alter surgery is covered by the adoption fee if it is done at 6 months at the PUP clinic. We require that she be altered at 6 months.
If you are at least 21 years old and everyone in your household is on board with adopting a puppy, CALL 651-645-4370 between 7:00 am and 9:30 pm and we will return your call within 24 hours. If you elect to contact us via e-mail it may take several weeks for us to get back to you. Renters must provide proof that you are allowed to have a puppy. If you currently have a companion dog or cat please be prepared to provide a vet reference prior to adoption if requested.
