MEET MAGGIE

This buoyant 2-year old girl is an adorable mix of unbridled energy and sweetness – and certainly no wallflower! Maggie is a lab/pit mix, with a predominately black body. Her face is full of irrepressible personality, which makes it hard to resist this sweet and funny girl. Maggie is a nice medium-sized dog, currently weighing about 42 lbs.

Maggie was found as an emaciated stray by one of our former adopters, who took her in and began the process of nursing her back to health and getting her fully vetted. During her vet visit, it was discovered that poor Maggie was suffering from heartworms, so she is now undergoing heartworm treatment. Maggie is currently at the HSWA Dog House, endearing herself to everyone she meets, although she prefers to be around females, so there is probably some trauma in her past from a male. This girl is high energy, which makes it more difficult for her to stay calm per heartworm treatment protocol, but she is super sweet and friendly, loves attention and getting pets (if she can manage to be still long enough), and generally just wants to be close to people.

Because of Maggie’s energy level, she will certainly need a fenced yard if left outside unattended at all, but she is not to be an outside dog only as she wants to be with her people all the time. She has a lot of energy and may not be suited to an apartment setting unless there will be lots of outside exercise incorporated into her daily activities. We have not had the opportunity to test Maggie with other dogs due to her need to stay calm because of the heartworm condition, but with her excitability, she probably would NOT do well in a home with cats or small dogs. Maggie should be great with children 10 and older, maybe not younger ones that she may accidentally knock over with joyful jumping. We have started on her crate and leash training. Maggie is up to date on her vet care, is currently undergoing heartworm treatment, and has been spayed and microchipped. She is on heartworm and flea/tick prevention.

Maggie may not have had the best start in life, but she is experiencing better days and is just looking for her perfect forever home so she can have the unconditional love and security that she so richly deserves. Could that home be yours?
