UPDATED! 0730/21 Hi! My name is Lucy Lu! I originally came from a shelter in the south. They thought I was about 4 years old. I’m very affectionate, smart, & eager to please my people! I’m great on a leash & I LOVE walks! I’d also make a great running partner if you prefer to run rather than walk. I’m also relatively quiet for a beagle. Even when I get on the scent of a rabbit, I don’t bay. Of course, I should always be in a securely fenced yard or on a leash when outside, after all, I am a beagle and have been bred to follow my nose. I can jump a 4 foot fence & climb a baby gate, and so I would need supervised if I’m in a yard with a chain link fence or 4 foot . I’m young, so have a lot of energy, but I settle down if you give me enough exercise. Give me a good walk in the morning before you go to work & I’ll be fine in the crate for a solid 8-9 hours. I’ve been walking 1.45 miles in the AM & PM in my foster home. I also travel well – just put me in a crate & I won’t make a peep. I’m very good with other dogs – I love to play with them. I do well with dominant dogs as well as more submissive ones. I’m not good with cats, though. I’ve been training at Muddy River K-9 Academy in New Bloomfield, PA. I’m doing great! I’ve learned: sit, down, place, walk & crate. Perhaps because of my chaotic past, I thrive on structure. I do better in a crate when no one is home rather than roaming free. (It makes me nervous not to have structure.) If my person works at home, I do better being told to go to my place bed, or be in a crate. I do not like loud sounds – they make me nervous. But I’ll be ok if I can go to my crate & curl up, or sit next to my person & curl up. So I need a relatively quiet home. I’m housetrained, spayed & up-to-date on vaccines. I just need my forever home! Are you it? My forever family will need to participate in training at Muddy River so you can learn what I know and how to maintain my existing training. A home with older dog savvy children would be OK. I would be a great 1st dog for a person who wants to learn about training!
