Meet Lucy in WI - Sweet Girl Knows Lots of Tricks!

Lucy, a lovely senior Pyr mix girl, is looking for a relatively quiet furever home where she can spend her golden years. Lucy's DNA test revealed her to be a Pyr/Akita mix, and she bears the unique markings on her face along with the cutest curly tail typical of an Akita. She is a wise and knowledgeable girl, knowing many basic cues. She loves to play with toys and run through all her tricks - she knows sit, down, spin, shake, and a couple of others and is so good, she can balance a piece of bacon on her nose, wait, then on your "ok" signal will eat the bacon :) Lucy has a special routine to make sure new people coming into the house are welcome. Lucy takes her job as a guardian dog very seriously, especially when it comes to protecting her family from other dogs and/or strangers when they are out and about. So an adopter with guardian breed experience is a must. All in all, Lucy is quite a sweet and relaxed mellow girl, though she does like the occasional playtime, especially when a toy is involved. Lucy loves to hang out with you inside, and she is also happy hanging out in the backyard on a nice day. She is thrilled when you have time to take her on a walk on a regular basis. Given her age, Lucy has mild arthritis and it will be important for her people to pay close attention to ensure her quality of life as she ages. If you have a relatively quiet home and are looking for an easy-going, laid back girl to be your companion, Lucy may be the pyrfect girl for you!

Secure VISIBLE fencing is required; invisible fencing WILL NOT contain this breed.

Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature (www.nationalpyr.org/know-the-breed) and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority.
