"Lucy was tragically shot in the eyes in Lebanon. Hound dogs like LUCY, are often treated as "tools" and face the constant threat of being shot, enduring mistreatment, and fall victims of abuse, and eventual abandonment when their hunting days conclude.
Fortunately, we happened to be at the vet when the owner brought LUCY for euthanasia. Overhearing the dispute and the vet's rejection (luckily), stressing that even without sight, Lucy could lead a dignified life with the proper care.
Unwilling to leave LUCY with the owner, fearing abandonment or another euthanasia attempt we intervened and took her into our care.
We rushed LUCY to the best veterinary team in Lebanon a consortium of Eye Specialist, Internal Medicine and the best Surgeon in the region, but sadly it was too late to treat LUCY’s eyes. By the time we rescued her, she had suffered for years and eventually left to suffer a great deal of pain for over 4 months after being shot and left without any kind of treatment.
The Doctors collectively decided that it's best to go for enocluation of both eyes as the damage was beyond repair and she was suffering emense pain due to the high pressure in both eyes. LUCY underwent the enocluation operation and was also spayed.
Now LUCY is a happy healthy sweet girl, and she's ready to join a family where she can enjoy the life she truly deserves in Canada."
Despite all her suffering and pain LUCY remains trusting and incredibly friendly. She is in foster care in Lebanon with her rescuer.
