Lucky Rottweiler Lincoln, NE

MARR covers Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Wisconsin. Lucky is being fostered in MO currently. However, transportation is available for adoptions within our coverage area.
Lucky is a fun, lovable dog! He loves to play fetch but likes to play keep away from you even more. When he hasnt seen you all day, he runs right up to you, will fall at your feet and ask for pets. Initially, he was very timid around people but after Decompression in his Foster home, he warms up quickly to both men and women. He may have an initial preference to females; however, his Foster thinks his bigger preference is towards people with calm energy who are willing to be patient and clearly communicate their expectations of him.
Lucky loves taking a bath and getting brushed. He loves and needs toys as he likes to chew; he loves bones and his favorite treats are Milk Bones. Lucky plays well with other dogs of all sizes, his original owner had a toy dog breed that he got along with. He has interacted with his Foster's resident Rottie through a gate and did well after decompression with play bows. Lucky has not interacted beyond fence interactions with his Foster's female (more due to her restrictions than any concerns about him). He does have some reactivity on leash to other dogs that are not known to him but that appears to be more frustration in wanting to go greet/play with them than aggression. He walks really well on leash with the exception of this reactivity towards other dogs. With distance and redirection, he seems to do well, though this will likely be something his future owners will need to continue working on. With appropriate decompression and introductions, we think he will do well with other dogs.
Lucky can be very timid at first, showing fear/cowering with fast hand movements, changes in tone of voice, loud noises, etc. It took him about 1 week into Decompression for him to settle into his Foster home/routine, he started to become more playful after 3-4 days. Within 3 weeks, most of his fear/timidity has disappeared. Once he feels secure, Lucky is a playful/goofy dog who is up for a game of fetch/tug or is game for a good cuddle session (he likes to think he is a lap dog and will try to get as close as he can for good scratches/pets). He will bark at things when scared/uncertain but is pretty avoidant of conflict. He has never growled or resource guarded with his Foster. He will whine for a few minutes if he is in a separate room from his Foster while home (typical Velcro Rottie!), but he will settle down and lay quietly. He also is good about being calm in his room throughout the day while his Foster is at work with no signs of anxiety when they are gone.
Lucky has lived in a home with teenagers but has no exposure in his current Foster home. He did not react to children on walks past playgrounds but due to his playfulness as well as his initial timid nature with sudden noises/movements, we feel he will do best in a home with older children who are dog savvy. He has not been cat tested but does not show interest in chasing squirrels/small animals while on walks or in the yard. While he does great in the car, Lucky does prefer to keep it low impact on his joints and only put his front paws in the car then wait for his people to pick up his back end.
Lucky is a playful dog who is full of love! He may take some time to settle in and learn to trust his people, but once he does, he is full of nothing but love and play! He will do the Rottie lean when he wants your attention. Initially, he would jump up or try to crawl in his Foster's lap when he wanted pets, they have been working on an automatic sit by his Foster's side when he wants pets, something he has picked up quickly! If his Foster sits on the floor, he will come right up to them, flop down and roll over for belly rubs. He has been great with touching his body all over (ears, face, paws, neck, legs, back, belly, etc).
