Lucky American Staffordshire Terrier & Hound Mix Mount Holly, NJ

This pup stole our hearts.....brought to us with a beautiful happy go lucky personality even though his foot was missing!

At only about 8 months Lucky was injured and discovered with his foot severed. We don't know what happened but we felt he might have been caught in a trap and chewed his foot to escape. In any case, such a sad situation for such a young puppy..............and yet he was the happiest boy I have ever seen!!! Taking him to a shelter was not an option. In his condition no one would want to adopt him or assume the financial responsibility of treatment for a dog in a kill shelter.

After initial examination and care, a biopsy was done to rule out cancer and we are happy to say that is he does NOT have cancer! So now- what to do? Amputation of the entire leg is often the determination. Yet, as I discovered he was using that leg even without his foot I felt that he may be able to keep that leg. Usually amputation is done because the leg is useless and hinders mobility....that was not the case with Lucky.

Next step- Prosthetic? Maybe. At this point and time we are having him evaluated for a prosthetic and will be following through with that option. We feel pretty sure he will do just fine with added help...but, the truth is he's happy either way! His video and the solid use of his muscles in that leg are his "saving grace"

Fully vetted Lucky has been neutered, microchipped and is ready to work with us to make life a little easier on him. He is in NC but headed to NJ for his fitting and therapy to use his new foot. NOW ALL HE NEEDS IS A FAMILY...to love him and play with him and know the joys of such a great dog!!
