Meet Liberty
YOU MUST HAVE AN APPROVED APPLICATION IN ORDER TO MEET OUR PETS.
We would like to introduce gorgeous Liberty, a resilient and amazing 18 month old, 10 pound girl who has just joined our program. She was found as a stray on July 3rd and taken to GCAS and then came into our rescue.
Liberty has faced an unimaginable past and was found with severe burns on her legs (probably chemical burns according to the vet), one leg with the skin completely gone (see photo) so that it needed to be amputated. She has a really pretty, fluffy coat (currently shaved for surgery) but will probably never regrow fur on the few remaining heavily damaged areas of her legs.
On July 9, she underwent an exam, leg amputation and was spayed. She is now on the path to recovery and ready to start a new chapter filled with love and care. She is healing beautifully!
Despite her struggles, Liberty's spirit remains unbroken. She is still giving kisses and happily wagging her tail. She has been very friendly despite her pain, a pretty incredible trait. She flinches a bit when we apply soothing balm to her legs but still cooperates.
She is even already wanting to initiate play with the other dogs in her foster home despite just having had an amputation.
Liberty is a loving Velcro dog who prefers not to be alone. She loves to stay very close to family, so close that she will be best in a home with nimble adults who will not accidentally trip over her and family that is home a lot.
She does seem to enjoy being around other dogs too and is fine with playful ones and also those that really do not care about playing (she won’t continue to bother them).
She seems to be housetrained already when kept on a predictable schedule.
Liberty will do best in a new home with a fenced yard simply because she is not quite ready for street walks yet (acclimating to 3 legs and paw pads are a little tender still).
A fenced yard will allow her to amble around outside at her own pace as she gains strength and potty on the cool grass (instead of hot pavement).
Liberty is a petite little girl, only about 10 pounds, but she is obviously too thin and needs to gain a few pounds. Her appetite seems to be fine.
Since she was a starving stray, she does have some very mild food guarding behavior but we expect this will improve as she gains confidence that she will be fed regularly and that her humans will not allow other dogs to take her food. She may be best in a home without tiny toddlers who might mess with her food bowl. We do think she will be fine once this behavior is trained away and she realizes she has no need for it anyway.
Liberty is a very special young girl and a true gem, who simply shines despite whatever horrible thing happened to her in the past. She is happy, full of love, and ready to join her forever family.
Naturally, she will continue to require her new family to care for her wounds until they are healed and should not play with any dogs who want to rough house.
Adoption donation $400.
Please note that we do not ship animals. We also require a home visit before finalizing any adoptions so preference is given to applicants within a 90 mile range. You will be required to come to High Point, NC to meet/pick up your new pet.
