Meet Libby
Located in Bloomington Il. My name is Elizabeth the Great or Libby for short. I am an 8-year-old Maltipoo, and I’m located in Bloomington, IL. My current family adopted me from Northcentral Maltese Rescue when I was 1-year-old. I had been found as a stray and NMCR saved me. My current mom got a new job that keeps her away from home a lot, and my human brothers moved away, so they decided it wasn’t fair that I spend so much time with only my brother, Percy, in the mudroom.
I weigh about 11 lbs. Mom only feeds me dog food, but I LOVE human food. She always mixes in some fresh food which makes it better, so I will eat more of it. I’m kind of a picky eater. I love it when mom adds chicken, fish, broth, or goat milk to my kibble. When my current family first adopted me, I was very afraid after being on the streets alone. I took to mom right away, and I warmed up to other people gradually. Sometimes, when I meet new people, I still get scared, but mom picks me up so I don’t feel so small. After a while, I warm up to them and will sit by their feet for a rub.
Mom says I’m a good dog. She says I’m the best dog whenever someone is sick. I will snuggle up beside you or follow you wherever you go. I am crate-trained, but I prefer to sleep in bed with someone. I love my humans and always want to be close. I’m also spayed and house-trained. When I want to go out, I will lick your hand. If it’s an emergency, I’ll run around the room, turning in circles, looking for somewhere to go. I know the commands sit, drop, come, wait, and stay (this one can be hard for me). I can play fetch, but sometimes, I don’t remember that I should give the toy back so they can throw it again.
About 2 months ago, I developed herniated discs in my back and lost the use of my back legs. I was prescribed 2 medications: a muscle relaxer that I take twice daily and a pain medication that I take as needed. Mom also gives me CBD oil twice daily. I am a lot better now. The vet says this sometimes happens to small dogs with long backs, and when I went for my check up, she was amazed at how well I am doing. I can walk and run on my own although I look a little wobbly. The vet says I should not jump on the furniture or climb stairs. This is another reason mom is rehoming me. I really need someone who is home during the day so that I can get the exercise I need to maintain my recovery.
I am current on all of my shots and microchiped. My meds cost about $62 per month. My mom will provide several months of my meds when I am adopted to help my new family with the transition. I have been living with Percy and could go home with him if possible. If you want to adopt a really sweet girl who will snuggle you forever, submit your application, you will find it on our website Northcentralmalteserescue.org If you have questions, please get in touch with Mary at 262-800-3323.
