Hello, I'm Leo, and I'm about 7 years old.

I was rescued from the streets of Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria in 2017. I was adopted shortly after by someone in Indianapolis, but when I arrived in the States, my forever home could no longer keep me, leaving me homeless once again. I moved around various rescues until I found sanctuary with AH Rescue in August 2018, and I’ve been here ever since.

I’m in excellent health. I’ve had dental work done, my yearly vet check-up, and even had a large, non-cancerous tumor removed from my leg. I’m a happy, social dog once I feel comfortable, but it does take me a little time to overcome my shyness. I tend to trust women more easily.

I get along well with dogs of all ages and sizes, but I especially gravitate toward females. I'm also friendly with cats. I walk well on a leash, and my recall with my preferred human is perfect, but my caretaker, Cindy, says a fenced yard is required. I weigh 43 pounds, making me a petite gentleman.

I enjoy walks, car rides, serenity, and having my personal space. I’m not much of a barker, but I can bark when needed. Back on the island, I was said to be a "Santo dog," which I believe just means mutt in Puerto Rico. I’ve been around kids, and they seem fine. I usually keep to myself, but having an older child to share treats with sounds nice.

I am a good dog! I’m house and crate-trained, and I get along well with everyone. However, I can be destructive with toys when I play. I hope my forever home finds me soon.

Leo is house and crate train. He walks well on a leash, and his recall off-leash is great.

All Adoptions Include:
• Spayed/Neutered
• Rabies Vaccination: 1 or 3 years.
• All Age Appropriate Core Vaccinations Including Lepto & Corona. 1 or 3 years.
• Heartworm tested Negative.
•Receive monthly Heartworm, Flea, and Tick Prevention.
• Lyme Disease Tested Negative.
• Dewormed and Fecal tested Negative.
• All testing completed within 6 -12 months.
•All age-appropriate needs (blood work, dental, testing, and meds)
• Lifetime Microchip Registration includes free unlimited updates.
•Feed a quality protein diet

Adoption Processing:
•Adoption application review can take up to 3 weeks.
• A minimum of 2 Meet & Greets are required before adopting.
•A home check needs to take place.
• Out-of-state adopters are welcome at the adopter's expense.
• We Do NOT ship any of our adoptable pets.
• Adoption fees are paid at the time of adoption
•No exchange or request for money is required before adoption.
•No payment plans.

AHRS Former Adopter:
• No adoption fee is required; a donation of choice is expected, encouraged, welcome, and appreciated.

Training is an ongoing process that needs to be worked on daily. New issues and opportunities arise daily that have to be addressed and or rewarded. Continued training is a purity setting them up for success.
