Leo Rottweiler & German Shepherd Dog Mix Creston, IA

Leo is a super cute fella that originally came to the City Pound as a puppy. He was adopted at 7 months old and returned almost a year later. While in his previous home, he learned the commands sit, down, stand, leave it. He is treat motivated so additional teachings should be easy. He also learned to walk nicely on leash and is pretty good at coming when called. Basic obedience classes would really help Leo and his new person bond and learn ways to properly correct wrong behavior.

Leo is food possessive and will have to be fed in a separate room by himself at every meal time. He loves to chase and wrestle other dogs at the city pound and that can be intimidating so we suggest a meet-n-greet with any resident dogs just to be sure it's a match. He would probably do well with one canine buddy but we do not suggest a multi-dog home.

Leo is a large boy with lots of active dog excitement energy and will need adequate exercise to help his mind stay busy and cut down on destructive behavior caused by boredom. Kong toys and "brain teaser" toys are good at occupying his mind. He is a destroyer of soft, squeaky toys.

Leo is fearful of some men and can react to perceived danger. He seems to be fine with slow introductions and after he has time to accept new people. He is not a good pet for children under age 10. He is a mix of guardian breeds and will probably take the job of home (and people) protector seriously. His new family will have to commit to keeping him contained and safe.
