Meet Ledger

Male | Neutered/fully vetted | 1.5 y | 80lbs | Lyme positive | Training mandatory

?Kids: Potential with structure in home (he doesn’t realize his size)

? Dogs: Good after a proper intro. He loves to play and is great with my dogs. He may not do well with a dog that won’t tolerate younger energetic behaviour.

? Cats: He can try to play at first.

Going slow and advocating for everyone in the home is key to a smooth transition!

He’s a sucky 1 1/2 year old GSD. He’s an affectionate, goofy, sensitive boy who likes to snuggle on the couch and loves kisses. He does require someone who can make sure he gets the physical/mental stimulation a young working breed needs. He loves his toys and ballies. He snuggles in bed every night. He’s very smushy and loveable!

He was having some issues previously with the crate, but he’s made quick progress. He may have a little separation anxiety, understandably. He can have a little bit of typical Sheppy stranger danger when someone he doesn’t know comes to the home, but it’s minimal. He has full potential to be a bull in a china shop, if he’s allowed. He can jump when excited/nervous but just needs help with his spacial awareness and manners. He’s still working on his general training. He can be reactive to dogs on leash. He gets a little frustrated and vocal when he sees them, but again, very workable!

As with most dogs, we do not recommend dog parks (coincidentally he was left at one) or on leash meets with dogs he doesn’t know. He’s been nothing but good with dogs once he meets them, but his initial reaction can be a bit “rude” and overstimulated/forward, which not all dogs prefer! Once he gains more confidence and has a confident human to help him learn how best to approach the world, he will do amazing.

All his behaviours are expected of a young dog that wasn’t provided with much guidance in his previous home and needs some time to decompress, settle and learn the routine and boundaries of a new one. He has TON of potential and catches on super quick! Putting in the effort with training will help him thrive. Training with a professional trainer is necessary. He’s really a one in a million dog if he has someone willing to put in the work!

Extra caution must be taken even in fenced in areas. He did easily jump our fence when first rescued and is a potential flight risk in the wrong situation.

He tested positive for Lyme disease. Right now he shows no protein in his urine. He will need continued monitoring with a few more urine tests and watching for symptoms. So far we’ve seen no issues!
