Here’s a quick rundown of Laken's Needs:
-quiet home with no kids
-no cats
-no shared walls/quiet neighborhood
-likes other dogs but you need to provide structure during a long introduction as he has no dog manners and does things other dogs do not appreciate
-an owner that understands stress signals/dog language
-an owner who can advocate for him and provide ongoing confidence and obedience training. We will ask for your experience and game plan on how you plan to do this.

Hi there! My name is Laken, and although I’m with Minnesota Pit Bull Rescue, I'm not a pit bull. What I am is a handsome adolescent Rottweiler! I came to find my way into MPBR after being picked up as a stray. The shelter said I was showing signs that I was really nervous so the great folks at MPBR got me into a foster home where I can relax and start to work on some obedience and confidence skills. My birthday is approximately 4/18/2020.
I would love to find a family that will advocate for me and help me to build my confidence. I tend to be a little more unsure when meeting new people and prefer to meet them before they can meet me. (That means my owner doesn't let people approach me but rather has the person stand still and I sniff them on my own terms.) This helps to keep me from nervous/excitedly urinating in new situations (which I have done on occasion). Due to my insecurities, when meeting new people my foster believes it would be best that I live in a home without the chaos of children.
I also sometimes get overly excited when trying to share affection and sometimes give a little face punch vs just a nice lick... and the littles definitely aren't prepared or even equipped to work with that (I sometimes still take my foster by surprise with this). I'm not always the greatest at knowing personal space as well as boundaries or home etiquette, my foster says this makes me a little rude so I'm trying to gain a better understanding of what rude behaviors are and control them a little better! I am also trying to learn how to keep my frustration voice under control and can be somewhat vocal in my kennel at times when there are things going on that I want to be a part of.
A home that doesn't share walls and a home that isn't located in a busy area would probably be best. I've also shown a bit of a tenacity to quickly chase small critters that run from me so no cats for me please.
Dogs- well I have met a lot of them, and I LIKE all of them... none of them have liked me. I do things like chew on their legs, come at them full force, try to mount them, etc. (All the things that I shouldn't do when introducing myself to new friends). It is extremely hard for me to remain calm around them which I need to work on if I am going to have off leash time with dog friends. For now, I need to be on a leash when around other dogs.
I LOVE playing with several squeaky silicone balls in my foster home... although most of them don't squeak anymore, but they're still AWESOME!
I do well crating and am kennel trained. I do well going to the bathroom outside as long as it's supervised to make sure that I go to the bathroom as I don't really like to be outside alone and tend to turn around quick to head back inside. It is important than I am accompanied outside by my owner as I do tend to show barrier aggression. This happens both while I am in my crate and there is a new human in the home and while I am outside and new human walks by the fence line.
I'm a strong and growing guy who needs someone that's ready to help me develop confidence while also showing me guidance and boundaries through ongoing training. If you think you’re the person for me, please visit www.mnpitbull.com for adoption information as well as their online application.
