Meet Knox
A spirited six-year-old Labrador Retriever from Portland, OR, whose essence is a delightful blend of energy, curiosity, and big-hearted snuggles, all wrapped up in a sunny yellow coat. At a full-grown 100 pounds, Knox is a gentle giant with a passion for adventure and a love for the great outdoors. His eyes light up at the sight of his favorite durable treat toy, and he’s mastered the art of getting every last crumb out! His days would be even better with a family that shares his love for long walks and outdoor explorations.
Knox has received some formal obedience training and proudly shows off his skills with commands like “sit,” “wait,” and “shake.” While he's still working on “come” and “heel,” with a little more consistency and time, Knox is sure to thrive! He’s crate-trained and feels safe there as long as he knows it’s a positive space, though the crate door being closed can make him a bit uneasy.
Knox is an affectionate dog who loves to snuggle, often unaware of his size as he sits right on top of you in the most awkward, heartwarming way. He’s a big, lovable companion, but he does have some behavioral challenges that potential pet parents should be aware of. Knox has shown resource guarding behaviors in the past, which have led to a few instances of biting. These bites were triggered when he felt possessive over objects or felt stressed due to a lack of exercise and attention. With the right structure, training, and an experienced pet parent who can provide the consistency and care Knox needs, this behavior can be managed. His new family should have experience with dogs exhibiting similar behaviors and be willing to work with him using positive reinforcement techniques.
Knox would thrive in a home where he gets plenty of outdoor time, exercise, and mental stimulation to keep him from feeling cooped up. He gets along with some dogs but is selective, so slow introductions are key. While he hasn’t had much experience with cats, he may be open to meeting them in the future with the right introduction.
If you’re ready for the rewarding journey of giving Knox the love, care, and guidance he needs to live his happiest life, he could be your next great adventure buddy. Could Knox be the loyal companion you’re looking for?
