Meet Kirby
Kirby is currently in a foster home in Houston, TX and is eligible for meet and greets!
Meet Kirby!
Kirby is a 3-4 year old little girl who weighs 18 lbs. She is fully vaccinated, spayed and microchipped! Our vet’s think Kirby is a Jack Russell Terrier / Chihuahua mix, but we cannot be sure. Our vets think she is fully grown and will stay around 18-20 lbs.
Kirby was found as a stray by one of our fosters, running in a busy street in Houston. When Kirby was found she was very underweight and skittish, but once captured and given the love and care from her foster family, she has flourished into a confident and loving companion!
Kirby is the perfect lap dog! All she wants to do is be with her human, cuddling on the couch all day. Kirby is potty trained and crate-trained, and will even go lay in her crate when she isn’t on the couch!
Kirby has a sweet and affectionate nature and thrives in a calm and quiet environment. She enjoys spending time with her favorite people, lounging in the sun, and going for leisurely walks around the neighborhood. We think Kirby would enjoy a yard where she can leisurely go for a nap in the sun.
Kirby has foster siblings and gets along with other dogs! She isn’t interested in toys, so she lets her foster siblings take the lead on playing. We think Kirby would do best in a home with another laid-back dog who just enjoys cuddles for a night on the couch!
Kirby would do best in a home without young children, as she prefers not to be picked up. She would be a perfect companion for adults or a family with older children who understand and respect her boundaries.
Kirby can be shy when first meeting, but once she trusts you (with the help of treats!) she will be begging for neck scratches. Kirby gets zoomies in the morning when it is time to eat breakfast, and once she has eaten she’s ready to sleep all day until dinner!
Kirby is special because has been diagnosed with EPI - Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency. This is an easily treatable disease which just means her pancreas does not produce the enzymes necessary to break down the food and deliver nutrients to her body. Once her diagnosis was confirmed and her medication began, Kirby came right out of her shell! All she needs is a medication added to her food, which will continue for the rest of her life.
Some words from Kirby’s foster mom “Kirby has been the best house guest! We love her and are excited for her to find her perfect family. She has grown in confidence and happiness ever since we were able to help her gain weight. She gives us the BEST cuddles! Her EPI is super easy to manage and stay on top of with her medicine. If you are looking for the perfect little lap dog, Kirby is your girl!”
