Meet King

Hi Everybody!

My name is King, and I’m a field trial racer, also known as a lurcher. I’ve been in foster care with my wonderful foster mom and my three greyhound siblings for about four months. That’s quite a while! You might wonder why… Well, I broke my front left leg during a race, which brought me to HGA. I had surgery and now have a plate and several screws in my radius, while my ulna healed well on its own. After plenty of time in the kennel and lovely leash walks (by the way, I walk very well on a leash). I'm quite the curious observer and really enjoy watching the happenings in the neighborhood. I’m all healed and ready for adoption!

Here’s a little about me:

I’ll be 5 years old on November 7th, and I’m a handsome black boy. I’m a total love bug and really enjoy spending time with my humans. It doesn’t matter what we’re doing— as long as I’m with them, I’m happy! I’m about 75% greyhound and 25% coon hound. Thanks to my coon hound heritage, I can be quite vocal—I absolutely LOVE to bark! Because of my enthusiasm, I’ll need a house; unfortunately, an apartment, townhouse, or condo just won’t suit me.

I love playing with toys, especially the enrichment ones my foster mom provides every day. They’re amazing chew toys filled with fun food surprises! They’re so great that she even freezes them to make them last longer. I hear she’ll send one along with me when I get adopted.

I tend to be an alpha and would do best in a home with a more passive dog. I like to take charge, and since I’m the king, I believe I should be the boss! I particularly enjoy the company of female dogs—I’m looking for my queen! I’m also cat-safe, so I could happily coexist with a feline friend. I love kids and do well with them, but my foster mom thinks kids over 5-7 would be best for me, as I can get a little too excited during playtime and might be overwhelming for smaller ones.

Due to my healing process and my need for some time off-leash in the backyard, I won’t be available for adoption until after November 1st. If you’re interested in me and live in a house, please reach out!

This dog is being fostered in the Des Moines Area. We do not ship dogs. Adopters must be committed to meeting the dog in the area it is being fostered.
