Meet Kenny

NorthStar WI is helping in the adoption of Kenny, a female German Shepherd Dog. She was a recent surrender to a local Veterinarian Clinic. She is currently being fostered by one of the staff. Here's are her notes on Kenny:

Kenny is a 5yo, female Bi-Color German Shepherd Dog. She is genuinely such a sweet, loving dog. She needs more confidence, but she has already come a long way with us. This is the type of dog that all you need to do is give her 12 hours, and she will be your dog for life. She is submissive. She loves to be a part of the family. She loves to be pet, loved on, and brushed. VERY food motivated, very biddable. She has been at least with two other homes, and I would love to find her a forever family.

Yes:
- Dogs, but does seem to be more easy-going around chill dogs. Does fine with small dogs as well. Probably better with low-mid energy dogs, but she does good with my Belgian Shepherd.
- Cats. She has been cat tested and seems fine with them! She has also lived with cats previously.

No:
- Small Children.

Maybe:
- Teenagers.
- Other small animals. She definitely has prey drive for critters that move fast.

Things to note:
- Kenny can be leash reactive! She is a GSD, and acts just like one (shocking, lol!) She needs further training, but even in the first month she has HUGE improvement. She is making decisions to not bark, and recovered great. Will go to a handler willing to work with her. She is insanely smart, but has five years of bad habits to work through.
- She has boundaries, as does any dog, and it is important that someone stands up for her. Someone to stand up for her to prevent on-leash greetings from people and dogs. Again, she needs confidence building, and she needs someone that she knows will stand up for her space.
- LOVES her crate. She pushes the door open to go in there on her own. Would love a home that continues to utilize the crate, as she definitely sees it as a safe space.
- LOVES her frisbee! Can literally play frisbee all day if you let her.
-Can be possessive of toys. Has never escalated, but should be noted.
- Can possibly be food reactive with other pets. Will need a home who understands this, and plans to feed all meals/treats/chews separately. This will be the most fair option for Kenny.
- Can be fussy about her feet being touched. Not mean, but I never push her too far. She did fine at the vet and the groomer for her nail trim, but both also said she can be fussy.
- Wants to be a part of the family so bad. She wants to sit on the couch, she wants to nap all day, she wants to sniff around the yard. She is very much an easy-going dog.

IDEALLY WILL GO TO A GSD/DOG-SAVVY HOME. Unfortunately, I know my options may be limited with this. All I ask is that you do not bring her to dog parks, day care, or try to socialize her through meeting & greeting tons dogs and people out and about. She is a GSD. She acts like a GSD. It is very important to me that potential homes take this into account.
- If the right home does not come along, I am fully prepared to keep her until one does, or for the rest of her life if needed. She has already been bounced around so much, I do not want her to continue on this path.
-bStorm anxiety. No noise, but does pant. Will more than likely need medication and a solid crate, which she has done well in since finding this out.
