Meet Katy

******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************

We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog.

Katy, 5yr old, spayed female, pitbull mix, 45 pounds. Katy is in a foster home in Houston, TEXAS and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is lined up!

Katy has not had the best start to her life but she does not let it get her down. Her foster describes her as the sweetest, SWEETEST pup you will ever meet. She is cuddly and affectionate, and you will fall in love with her piglet grunts. She sits and stares at you with soft, squinty eyes and showing her sweet smile. She curls up in the tightest ball ever to fit next to you, but only after pretending she’s unable to climb up on the couch or jump on the bed. Of all her foster parent’s dogs, Katy stands ahead of them all as her most favorite hands down.

Katy lives in a home with two other resident dogs but has limited interaction with them as they can be prickly, and Katy has a more assertive personality. She’s had the opportunity to play with other dogs but does not pick up well on the cues they’re done playing and tries dominating them by pinning them and standing over them. She’s never bitten but we initially would advise an only dog home, or slow introductions with a more submissive/easy-going and well-balanced dog. Her foster has been doing a lot of work with Katy to help positively socialize her and notes improvement in this area.

Katy is moderate energy – silly with her zoomies and enjoys throwing her toys around. She enjoys long walks but is more of a couch potato who sleeps in her bed all day while her foster works. She would enjoy hikes or car rides to the vet or a park, or just being with her people. She LOVES being the center of attention and will follow you around like a shadow. She’s curious and cuddly, silly and playful, and is most deserving of a home of her own with someone who is patient and understanding.

Katy can be a bit shy around strangers, especially when they are introduced to her in the house. Her foster has been working with her a lot and Katy has improved mightily but she will love you forever if you first meet her outside and then come into her home.

Katy has exceptional house skills – she’s fully house trained and happy in her kennel, settling down quickly when her foster family leaves. She’s fed in her kennel and has come to associate her crate with safety and comfort. She’s not been left loose while unattended but her foster notes she probably could, as she has not demonstrated any destructive behaviors thus far. She does well on a leash and gets better every day, working on improving her loose leash walking and ignoring dogs she sees along the way.

Katy has not been around any kids but based on her excitement at receiving pets (she loves to toss her head back when cuddling and look up at you lovingly) and preference for her “things” to be left alone, we would recommend a home with older kids (10+yr). In general, we recommend homes with kids old enough to understand and respect animal behavior cues. We do not have any direct history with cats but Katy has encountered the strays in her neighborhood and watches intently, attempting to chase. If cats exist in the home, we recommend very slow introductions and supervised interactions.

***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. ***
