Meet Katie (purebred Llewellen Setter)
YOU MUST HAVE AN APPROVED APPLICATION IN ORDER TO MEET OUR PETS
Katie is a 14 year old purebred Llewelyn Setter. She will be 15 on October 18th and has earned the right to a quiet retirement. Katie spent her life as a breeder dog and came to us when her owner was diagnosed with dementia and was not able to care for her anymore. She has been spayed, is HW negative, house trained, up to date on shots and will have a dental cleaning.
Katie is a sweet old soul and her foster mom says she is really very easy to have around. She gets excited when she sees her people and you can hear her tail thumping all over the house. She deserves all the love you can give her.
Katie is an older dog and thus has a few requirements of her new home and family.
She will require a house with a comfy sofa for her to lay on as well as many other soft spots for lounging and sleeping. She had enough of having to sleep on the hard ground outside in the past!
She is already housetrained.
She is a bit of a loner who enjoys quiet time and resting peacefully. She will wag her tail from wherever she is sleeping when she sees you and maybe once a day will approach for a little attention and affection but she is almost like a big cat, an easy keeper! She is not a snuggler, more of a quiet companion.
Katie enjoys daily treats, and she wants those treats to be soft and very fragrant.
She seems fine with people but she is easily startled so no small children in her new home. She may growl and snap when startled and should not be bothered while she is sleeping. Foster mom suspects this is a kind of sleep with one eye open deal, learned from a lifetime out in the field where she lived with many other dogs, including unneutered males.
She needs to be the only dog in the home unless the other dog is very polite and well mannered. She is currently in a foster home with a super laid back Golden who learned fast to ignore Katie or risk a killer sideye followed by a growl. The growl is surprisingly deep. Her doggie foster brother will swear, under oath, that it is super scary so he keeps his distance.
Katie insists on no floor length mirrors in her home because she hates the dog that lives in them, just kidding, but that a good example of how regular home items are new and foreign to her after a lifetime living in a kennel setting.
She needs a home with no stairs or at least no stairs she has to climb on a regular basis. She is ok with a step or two up and down to go outside.
Speaking of going outside, Katie does not want to take long scenic walks with you at the park. She wants to go out in her yard and scoot back in the house as soon as possible since she is an indoor dog now you see and, after spending 14 years outside, she wants her new home to know she plans to spend as little time out there as humanly possible.
The vet said she thought she could hear some, but the only time she reacts to anything in her foster home is if something really loud and rumbly is on the TV and that freaks her out. She will immediately seek out my husband and bury her face behind him.
Beautiful Katie is a deserving girl who is seeking a comfortable, peaceful, loving retirement home, where people will appreciate her and give her time to settle in. Everything is so new to this precious senior!
