Katie German Shepherd Dog Bowmanville, ON

As our longest standing resident of just over a year, Katie is very special to the shelter staff. We know there's a good home waiting out there. She's a very smart girl, she learns everything, good or bad! When she's good, she's really, good! She's not terribly bad though, just particular.

Katie picks her favourite people - it takes her awhile to make decisions about whether she likes people or not, often more than one meeting. But once she loves, she's all in! She loves spending time with her chosen ones, on walks or watching TV. She's got a lot of energy though, so she'll need to get some exercise before she's ready to chill.

Because of her anxiety and stress about new situations, Katie would need a very controlled environment, a quiet home without a lot of strangers coming in and out. She would benefit from training, and work to relieve her anxiety, and potentially also basket muzzle training to set her up for success when she is out walking or at the vet.

Etiquette lessons would be a must for Katie, she is very enthusiastic about her walks! She's a strong puller and quite stubborn about going the way she wants! She'll play with any stick or toy she finds on the way. She would also benefit from a fenced backyard to run around in and play.

Katie has only met dogs through cages but seems quite interested. Cats, not so much. She would be better in a home without cats. Much the same with people, she seems to have her favourites for the dogs in the shelter as well. Staff feels she may be better in a one dog home, but slow gradual introductions may work with the right dog as well - any potential adopters with dogs would need to discuss with shelter staff before being approved.

Katie hasn't been tested with children, but given her pickiness about people, shelter staff believes she would be better in an adult home, or one with older children.
