This sweet little lady is Justice. She is a 5-year-old all natural blue Doberman (with possibly a bit of shepherd somewhere in her family tree) that came to IDR from her owners in central Illinois, where she lived outside on a farm with several other dogs. She was surrendered because she was having a battle for dominance with another female dog who wanted to be queen bee of the farm. She gets along great with her foster brothers, though, so we are recommending Justice for a home with only male dogs.
Thanks to her outdoor life she has a wonderful soft thick coat, so you won’t have to worry about that tendency of blues to lose hair. And, for a dog who hadn’t had much in terms of regular indoor exposure, Justice picked up potty training and house rules in no time at all. She does not have accidents, can be trusted home alone loose in the house, does not destroy things, and stays off the counters. We can’t say the same about the bed, though! Justice loves a good snuggle and would sleep with you if you let her. She is not fond of her crate and since she is trustworthy uncrated her foster family has been letting her choose where to sleep at night—she usually curls up next to the bed or in the hallway right outside the bedroom door.
Justice is a star athlete and would make a great candidate for agility training. She can jump fences 5 feet and under—thus the strict requirement for a 6 foot fence. She loves to run and will climb on anything available, from piles of rock to farm equipment and furniture. She is not hyper in the house, though. She is content to curl up next to the desk in the home office for hours while her foster mom works. As long as she has a yard to play in she won’t need frequent walks. She walks nicely on a leash but she is very strong and if she sees something that gets her interest she will pull.
Justice listens to correction and will sit when asked and come when called. She is very friendly meeting people, including kids, and she takes treats gently. She is a typical dobe who wants to be in the same room with you, preferably pressed up against you and with your hands on her. She will occasionally nudge an elbow or hand to remind you of your job, and she has mastered the soulful gaze when she wants attention. When she came to her foster home, she had a couple of naughty habits such as jumping up on people to give hugs and bolting out of doors, but she has quickly learned better manners. Things she is still working on include returning the ball when playing fetch and staying quiet while crated or tied on a stake out.
Justice needs a family to love her—if you’re ready for a sweet, energetic girl, submit an application today!
