Meet Joker.
The little guy at at about 42 pounds, is an 8-year-old American pit bull terrier. And all he desires is safety, love and to belong but his trust is not simply attained. Yes, easy for those who love heavy. Jokers never had a home after his people dumped him. He loved his little girl but this was not enough to choose to keep him.

Joker landed in a kill shelter to be rescued by a special needs individual finding himself in a rescue in Tipton County operated by a coco banana lady who was not a fan of the breed. Easily irritated making Joker a target in his kennel. He was stuck in a kennel where he was the target of all anger.

1 volunteer determined to get him out only to face euthanasia once again. By now he's defensive unsure distinction between people is impossible for him and all he wants to do is disappear as fear controls him.

Then he came to us and never did we let him experience uncertainty fear or be the target of anyone's hateful soul.

It takes effort and some time to gain his trust but it's not impossible or hard to do.

I showed him confidence, grabbed his leash and walked him then loaded him up in my car, and by the end of our 40-minute trip, he gave me his heart. His full heart and he never once not trust me again.

I do not know if anyone will ever want to give Joker a chance. 43 pounds of pure muscle but heavy with innocent love. It's been 5 years and no one has ever even considered giving him a chance. Joker is older maybe 8 years old if not more.

He's great with dogs, respectful of cats, and any big and small critters including our farm critters. He loves to sunbathe and go on walks and car rides, drive-throughs are fun. He's the quiet one no one ever notices.
Because he tries so hard to be invisible. Honey is playful sweet, emotionally tuned, and connected. This boy loves wholeheartedly but has no hope or expectation.

He is healthy and contempt.
He tries to be invisible and doesn't push for more because of his history of abuse and targeted anger.

Joker is fully vetted and becomes fully invested in those allowing his love.

Please don't let him die not ever knowing the feeling of true love of belonging.

Joker is house and crate trained, up to date on 3 years of all age-appropriate core vaccines including lepto, and corona, as well as the rabies vaccine, dewormed, fecal tested negative, microchipped with free lifetime registration and unlimited updated info ability at no additional fee, spay/neutered, heartworm lyme tested negative within 6 months and current on monthly heartworm flea/tick prevention year round.

Out-of-state adopters are welcome at the adopter's expense. We do NOT ship and meet and greet are required before adoption unless you are a previous adopter.

Previous adopters of AHRs have the first choice and are not expected to pay another adoption fee again. Donation of their choice is welcomed.

Training is an ongoing process that needs to be worked on daily. New issues and opportunities arise daily that have to be addressed and or rewarded. Continued training is a purity setting them up for success.
