Jersey Beagle Mix Columbus, OH

Meet Jersey. Jersey is a 5.5 yr old Beagle? mix that was adopted out from a rural shelter as a puppy 5 years ago and then returned recently because the owners said they couldn't take care of her anymore. They asked us to take her so that the poor girl didn't have to adjust to living in a shelter again, but the first foster home did not work out. She started showing signs of resource guarding and even snapped at the other dog in the house over a treat. Since then she was moved to a foster home where she is the only dog, but has had positive interactions with other dogs at the park and has done very well. We are not sure if the resource guarding and snapping was just from the transition from the shelter into a new home and with a decompression period would have resolved, or if this is something she would continue to show in any home so we suggest that she either be the only dog in the home, or she will only be considered to homes with experience in dogs that resource guard and know how to handle decompression and de-escalation. She has been introduced to cats while in our office and did very well. We were told by the shelter that the owners who returned her said she was not good with cats so we recommend a slow introduction to anyone wanting to adopt that also owns cats.

Jersey likes to go to the dog park in the foster apartment- so very low traffic, for exercise and she loves to cuddle with her foster dad. Jersey is a sweetheart when she comes to the clinic, is quiet in her kennel, and is potty trained, although she will have an occasional accident if left too long at home alone or not in the crate.

If you are looking for a low-key companion who will still like to go on walks and get out of the house every day with you Jersey is your girl.

Requirements for Adoption:
Sorry, but we only place our dogs in the Columbus area.
Must be over the age of 24 to adopt.
Your resident pets must be spayed/neutered.

Adoption Process:
We do not have an application. Adoptions are pet-adopter driven.
To meet our pets:
Call our office at 614-471-9000 or click on the pet that you are interested in and send an email. We will be happy to discuss the adoption process with you and set up a visit at the time of contact. The foster dogs are in foster homes and most of the cats reside at our office.

The adoption process includes a lease manager reference (if applicable), a veterinarian reference, and a home visit.

The pooches that visit your home will not be left there at the end of the visit. We take them back home with us so your family can discuss to ensure he/she is a good fit for your home.

There is an adoption agreement and adoption fees as follows:
$300 for Dogs
$100 for Cats

All pets are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm tested (dogs), fiv/leukemia tested (cats), & micro-chipped.
Known medical conditions are discussed at the time of inquiry.
