Meet Jake

******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************

We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision-making process, please make sure you have spoken with them, and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog.

Jake, 2yr old, neutered male black labrador/pit bull mix, 75 pounds. Jake is in a foster home in Houston, TEXAS and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is lined up!

Jake's journey began when he was found wandering the streets of Houston with his pregnant companion. He was taken to Houston's animal shelter underweight, and suffering from hair loss caused by fleas. With the help of Dizzy dog and a wonderful foster he is now ready to find his forever family.

This handsome and affectionate boy is a social butterfly, always eager to explore new places and make friends-two legged or four legged. One of his favorite ways to say hello to people is by rolling onto his back, inviting you for belly rubs and chest scratches.

Jake is a super quick learner and has mastered basic commands such as sit, lay down, wait and come, thanks to his love of treats. He is a great companion in the car, even on longer drives. He is crate trained and does amazing; sometimes happily running into it on his own when it's time for bed. Jake is mostly potty trained; his only set back is having to use the restroom right after eating. Taking him out immediately after eating or feeding him outside are the best way to ensure he is successful.

On walks Jake uses a gentle leader, though he is still getting used to it. He's never in a hurry and likes to take in all the sights and sounds, sometimes sitting to watch other dogs, cats, squirrels and birds. He gets along with and can play well with dogs of all sizes, including his 15 lb. foster sibling. He also regularly goes to doggie daycare where he plays with dogs other than his foster siblings. He has not been fostered with cats, so we don't have any information on how he interacts with them.

When Jake isn't playing, he enjoys lounging around the house and will often choose a cozy spot near his foster family. He loves to cuddle up next to you or lay his head on your chest or lap, often giving you kisses as he settles in. He's equally content to lay on the floor, usually with his head near or on your feet.

At times, Jake does have the energy and clumsiness of a puppy. Because of this we recommend a home with older children. He would thrive in a home that offers him regular physical activity (at least 30 minutes of brisk walking or playing each day), affectionate family time, another playful dog companion, continued training and a consistent routine. Jake will make an amazing addition to a family looking for a loyal, loving and active dog.

***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. ***
