G'day Mates, I'm Jacob – a purebred Australian Shepherd boy. My foster daddy calls me “baby Jacob” but I don't like it cuz I'm already 3 years old, sheesh! I'm neutered and healthy and weigh 37 pounds. If you would put an “extra shrimp on the barbie” for me for a little while, I would not mind that at all as I am told I could stand to gain a few pounds.




I'm looking for my forever home but before you consider me, I gotta tell you a little secret: I am a very, very, very shy pup. I spent my whole life cooped up in a chicken house on a farm with my brothers and sisters and my Mom so I'm not your typical socialite Aussie – I'm really not used to humans, other dogs, cats, children, cars. I just need to decompress a bit in a quiet home with a patient family who would give me lots of space until I come out of my shell. You shouldn't have small children but if you have a calm, mature dog who wouldn't mind being my mentor, that would be perfection. My current foster brother is cool as a cucumber and already taught me so many things: that the house is not to be “messed” with (pardon the pun), where in the yard to go potty, that barking is sometimes OK when the house needs protection but not when just a tiny little bird passes by, to behave on the leash (still on a learning curve there) and that fireworks are not to be afraid of (I was a champ this past 4th of July – I even watched some on TV!). He also promised to teach me how to play with toys because I have no idea what to do with them! I'm not sure if he'll be able to help me with this but when I hear sirens passing by, I start howling...I just can't help it, they really freak me out for some reason. My foster daddy then comes out and gently says “it's okay, baby Jacob” and I instantly feel better and reassured (okay, that's one time I'll tolerate that “baby” thing but don't you tell him that).




I'm an outdoorsy kind of pooch and love chilling in the backyard under some small tree that gives good shade. I love walks in the woods and if we get to run or jog in them a bit, that just makes me forget all my troubles from the past life. In the house, I am quiet as a mouse and very respectful of everything in it – I would not dream of chewing up your favorite chair or shoes or anything else for that matter (scouts honor!). Not to toot my own horn, but I'm told I am an exceptionally smart pooch and learn things very fast -- it took me only 2 days to become housebroken.




So mates, I reckon I may sound a bit demanding but consider this: I have 3 years of pure unadulterated dog love all bottled up inside me that is just waiting to pour out of me for the right person/family. If you are willing to work with me, you will see that happening very soon and you'll have a loving, loyal companion for life.




Jacob is a gorgeous purebred tri aussie that was one of 6 dogs PAWS rescued from a very neglectful environment in Maryland after breed specific rescues shamefully deemed them unworthy and turned their backs on them. These dogs have spent their entire lives secluded in a back yard, confined to a chicken coop with almost no human interaction. These dogs are the very definition of dogs worthy of rescue according to PAWS, and all of them are now in foster care and on the road to recovery. At this time, Jacob needs a home with another friendly and confident dog that he can learn from. This dog is severely under-socialized with humans, so can only be adopted into a quiet home that is willing and able to give him a lot of time to adjust. He can not live with small children at this time, the noise and commotion would terrify him. Only experienced applicants will be considered.

The adoption donation covers all pre-adoption vet costs (vaccinations, spaying/neutering -when age appropriate- heartworm testing/treatment when necessary and includes transportation up to New England at $140.00 per dog.

PAWS of New England is not shelter but a rescue and thus is not funded by any city or state organization - we rely solely on the donations of our adopters to help defray the costs associated with saving these precious lives.


We are often asked, ""Why would you charge ""so much"" for a rescue pet? Why not just place it in a good home?" ..... The answer is because we need adopters who are willing to support all rescue pets, not just the dog they adopt. A young, healthy dog might cost us $150-400 in discounted vet care, and many people will want to adopt it; an older dog with health issues can easily cost $500-1500 in veterinary expenses, and it may require months of foster care for rehabilitation yet we can only ask a minimal adoption fee, and it may be a long time until anyone comes forward to adopt him/her. Fees from the younger, more adoptable dogs help offset the cost of caring for the others.



Most of our dogs have a sad story to tell, and some have suffered through years of neglect or abuse. We hope that you too are willing to give an opportunity for a better life to ALL of our dogs by supporting them through adoption fees. Without these funds, our rescue efforts would not be possible.
