Meet Izzy

Hi, my name is Izzy (short for Isabelle). I am a blue Weim, approximately 3 years old, and I weigh about 63 lbs. I was very timid and depressed when I first came to my new foster home and it took a solid week to open up, start eating again and letting my guard down. I slept a lot the first week trying to understand all that was happening but I am doing much better and more at ease each day. I still am not eating as regularly as I probably should but my foster parents are being very patient and understanding. I came from a home where I was free fed and they can’t do that here since there’s another Weim in the house. I do great with my Weim friend but our initial time together was a little rough. I came from a home that had another Weim (male) and a chi/pug mix but no one else in the home except my human mom.
In my first home, I had a lot of free range outside and wasn’t walked on a leash, but my foster mom says I am doing pretty well. I don’t pull but I have no sense of direction so I get under her feet a lot. I will need help with this since I love going on walks. I have a lot of energy and need time outside. But, be careful not to let me roam without my leash as I am a runner, for sure. I recently saw an opportunity to try and run free as I used to on the farm and didn’t realize there was traffic everywhere! My foster parents were gentle and calmed me down and got me back safely. I don’t understand all the noises I hear either, like garage doors, loud cars going by, motorcycles, etc. and so I’m still a little anxious with being around them. I will get used to them soon enough.
My previous home also didn’t have stairs so these were new and intimidating to me. My current foster parents have recently introduced me to stairs and how to navigate them and I feel like a pro now. Although, I’m still not sure about stairs that lead into a basement; they seem a little scary. Oh, and since I’m starting to feel more at ease, I’ve shown my foster parents how sneaky I am with counter surfing and sniffing. I will take an opportunity to see what you have going on up on the counters or table tops so be careful what you leave up there. I haven’t really chewed up anything but my previous owner said I did chew while there. I do not like crates. I was in one when I was younger, but when my foster parents tried one for the first few days, I let them know I don’t care to be in there by digging and barking and pushing on the metal door to try and get out. This makes me very anxious.
I don’t know much about being around children of any age because my owner didn’t have any and my foster parents’ children are all grown up. I don’t think I would hurt them, since I’ve been a mum myself to 2 litters, but I haven’t been around kids so I can’t say.
I'd love lots of attention and will stick to you like velcro, get under your feet, and nudge you constantly for petting and rubbing and constant loving. I need some training with basic commands like sit, stay, and heal but with patience and consistency, I know I would be great at all these simple tasks. My previous owner worked at night and needed to sleep during the day so I would really enjoy someone who can spend more time with me! My foster mom works from home a few days out of the week and I love that she is there with me to let me outside and give me attention. Although, when she goes to work in the office, I do pretty good with being alone with my other Weim friend and I haven’t had any potty accidents in the house. I like that she has plenty of toys and bones for me to choose from to keep me busy if I get bored while she’s gone.
I am a very good girl and will be a loving soul once I get used to my forever home. If I am the one for you, please complete and submit an adoption application on our website louisvilleweimrescue.com.
