Meet Hope

Hi, I'm Hope!

I am a happy 1.5 year old coonhound. I am a sweet, affectionate girl who loves to play, play and PLAY, especially with other dogs, both big and small!

While I am very affectionate with my family I do have some general anxiety and take meds for that. Meeting new people can make me nervous but if you take your time it makes me comfortable quicker. It would be great if my new family is active - enjoy hikes, runs, and excited to share in a lot of adventures with me. Dog parks would be something I would love.

I'm crate trained and housebroken and making progress on basic obedience skills every day. My adopters need to be committed to continue providing me with consistent structure, and continue my training with a professional trainer. This is important not just because I'm young and energetic, but also because I have exhibited resource guarding of my food. I need training to help me learn that the humans will make the decisions and advocate for me and I don't need to protect my food, toys, or people.

While I enjoy other animals and have lived with dogs, cats and rabbits, it would be best if there are no other animals in the home with me as they bring out my resource guarding.

Because of my resource guarding, my new family make up should be primarily adults, or older kids (twelve and up), without other animals. I do love to play with other dogs, so having a dedicated playmate to meet up with in a neutral location without toys would be great.

Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.
