Meet Hero (now Ernie)
Hero is a sweet pup that was born on 6/1/24 and arrived to AHR with his Catahoula mix mom, Luna and three other siblings, Glory, Sam and Rebel.
Hero is a total sweetie who loves to snuggle after he has been busy on the go-go-go! He is comfortable in his crate and sleeps through the night. He’s very much a velcro puppy and loves affection from people and loves to play with other dogs. Hero is in the beginning stages of housetraining but is doing great!
We will be looking for a home with another young, playful dog for Hero as he really thrives with a buddy. Cats are a question mark. Generally we wouldn't match high prey drive dog with cats, but we can consider it based on the potential cat sibling in question. Other animals (indoor small animals and/or goats, chickens etc.) will not be a great fit. Hero will be fine with kids, they just need to understand puppy teeth!
Catahoulas and 'houla mixes require consistent, ongoing training, regular socialization and both physical and mental outlets. Because of this, someone who is very active themselves, with experience with a high drive dog will be the best fit.
Adoption fees cover age specific vaccinations, martingale and collar, spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm/lyme/ehrlichia test, worming etc.
Adoption fees:
Through 6 months of age $450;
7 months to through 5 years $400;
6 years and under 9 years $325: bonded pairs are $500;
9 years and older $250: bonded pairs are $300

This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending, meaning Pending Adoption. This dog is in foster care locally, ONLY if Maine or New Hampshire is listed next to the dogs name; otherwise, the dog is still waiting with our partner rescue for an adoption or foster home in New England.
PLEASE NOTE - We will check your veterinary reference, to ensure that current and prior dogs have a history of being kept up to date on rabies and distemper, have had annual heartworm tests, and are on heartworm preventative at least 6 months of the year. Current pets must by spayed/neutered.
