Meet Hela
Name: Hela
Gender: Female
Age: 12 months
Breed: Embark DNA results pending
Weight: 35lbs
Disability: Deaf
Dogs: Yes
Cats: chases but non aggressive
Kids: Yes
Socialization/training: This adorable and happy go lucky girl came to us all the way from a city animal control near Amarillo, TX. She spent some time at the local veterinary university while there to be a teaching candidate. The university students had nothing but wonderful things to say about her and loved getting to work with her, she clearly enjoyed being there and getting all of the attention too. This girl should be a breeze for vet visits now! Hela does know hand commands for sit and shake. We are working on other basic commands as she is very food motivated and interested in learning. She plays well with other dogs. Loves to play chase or wrestle.
Crate trained: She is currently crated for 6hrs a day during the weekdays and only when I’m gone on weekends. She is also crated at bedtime as she is not yet at a point where I would trust her to be left out. Currently she is fed in her crate as well. Hela is well adjusted to being crated and usually settles in pretty quickly.
Leash trained: Well mannered on walks but still room for improvement. Really only pulls when she sees another dog or person. She does enjoy her walks and they are a great way to get her
energy drained.
Activity Level: Very active. Hela is for sure a busy body, but she is also still a young dog. She does best when she has something to keep her mind or body busy. Multiple walks or one big long walk a day would make her very happy. Would do best in a home with a playful dog sibling or very active family/person. She will settle and lounge on the couch with you but only after a good play session.
Fence: She does respect the 4ft chain link fence and does not try to climb it. But she is very
inquisitive and intelligent so she is very capable of finding an escape route. Since she is so
adventurous and curious about the world she would need a good solid fenced yard.
Behavior: Hela is a total love bug. Her tail and butt are almost always wiggling. She does like to
cuddle and give kisses when she isn’t wrestling with her foster brother. Still has a few puppy
behaviors to grow out of so she is still a dog that would need supervision around the house. She loves her Kong especially when it has frozen treats in it. Hela would make a good spokesdog for deaf dogs and a good deaf dog for the first time special needs owner. Will some help with continued obedience fine tuning, Hela is going to be the very best companion for a single person or family.
