This sweet girl's story is absolutely going to break your heart, but **spoiler alert**, she is happy, healthy and ready to find her forever family! Halsey is the definition of resilience!!!

Meet Hasley - a sweet, 6 month old, Rat Terrier / Basenji mix, who weighs 20 pounds (as of 8/18/24). Hasley was rescued by an amazing park ranger who found her drowning in Grenada Lake. We believe sweet Hasley had been trying to take a sip of water from the lake, and fell in the water where someone had illegally set beaver/cougar traps. She was stuck in the trap, and spent a long and scary night thrashing around the lake. By the next morning she barely had energy left, but was able to keep her snoot above the water line to breath, and luckily someone found her just in time! When the park ranger jumped in to save her, they had to push away a water moccasin. The sweet baby was so traumatized from this entire experience, and when the ranger pulled her free, she actually stopped breathing for a moment. He was frantically rubbing her chest and kept her warm until she started breathing again. Unfortunately the trap left her foot very badly mangled and damaged her foot all the way to the bone. The wound was horrible, and the light in Hasley's eyes had dimmed. At this point, the vets had no other option than to amputate to give this girl a second chance.

After surgery and her recovery, Hasley is a completely different dog -- she is HAPPY!!!! She continues to improve every day. Within days, she was trying to run and play. She has a big personality and loves meeting new people and other dogs. She would love a family and home where she has a resident doggy friend. She can be a little nervous in new environments, and likes to scope out her surroundings on her own terms - but once she feels comfortable, she opens right up. Her spunk and determination is what saved this sweet girl's life.

While Hasley only has 3 legs, she has a heart full of courage and so much love to give! It's not the number of legs that matter.... she will bring endless amounts of love and joy into your life!

All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.

PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works.

Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted. To learn more about our *shelterless* rescue, adoption fees, and procedures, review the list of Frequently Asked Questions on our website at WWW.GDRNE.COM.
