Name: Harper
Nicknames: Harp, Harper Jones, Harpsichord
Age or DOB: a little over 5 months old (as of 9/17/20)
Activity Level: moderate to chill. Harper wants to play for a solid 30 minutes and then nap.
Things I do in my free time: chew on my Benebone, play with my foster doggie brother & sister. I like to chase them around in the yard. I may only have 3 legs but I can keep up with them no problem!
Things I know: My name, that I eat meals in my kennel, and sit. I also walk well on a leash. My foster parents want you to know I’m awesome in my kennel at night. I sleep a solid 8 hours without needing to go outside and have not had any accidents during the night.
Things I am learning: going into my kennel with the “kennel” command (if you have my food or a treat and just walk toward my kennel, I dive right in without command), waiting for my food (sit and wait until release word "OK" is given), not jumping on people, and come. I am also 50/50 with potty training right now. I’m really good at going right away when I’m outside but sometimes I don’t alert my foster parents that I need to go out.
Kids: I haven’t met very many kids yet. My foster parents think it’d be fine because I’m a really relaxed dog but there are times where I am still learning not to play bite. I would need to be supervised with tiny humans for this reason.
Dogs: I love my foster siblings - there is a 5 year old male and a 1.5 year old female. I realllly enjoy cuddling with humans and dogs; the big guy lets me cuddle with him (the little female is a little more selective but I’ve managed to wiggle my way into her heart on a couple occasions). I play well with both and listen and watch their body language. Foster parents say I’m a submissive dog.
Cats: I’ve met a couple and have been intrigued but have let them be. I’m young and calm so my foster parents think I’d do fine as long as I’m taught what acceptable behavior is around them.
Size: I’m around 20 lbs right now. I was really tiny when I first got to MN but I’ve gotten healthier since I’ve been here. I’ve filled out really nicely. I bet I’ll be around 50-60 lbs when I’m fully grown.
Car rides: I love them. I’ve done well buckled in my dog seatbelt in the back and I’ve ridden in my kennel. I have no issues going where you go!
Additional Info from foster: Harper is a great puppy. We’ve focused on her becoming healthier since she got here so our obedience training has taken a backseat. Even so, she listens well and is extremely calm, she’s been an easy foster. Who doesn’t love a dog that sleeps through the night? She does great in her kennel and will normally only whine a bit when she can hear or see you doing something without her. Someone is always home with her but we keep a routine schedule so she goes in her kennel throughout the day to help get acclimated and help with any sort of separation anxiety. If you allow it, Harper will be at your feet or in your lap 24/7 which can lead to unhealthy behavior. By having time by herself, she is learning independence and basic obedience, I would hope her new family continues this behavior (especially since she’s so good at it).
A little of her history: Harper had mange and a fractured leg when she came to us from Texas. Her skin is improving but she still has a couple patches of thin hair. Unfortunately her leg was not healing on its own, even after an attempt to save it, so her rear leg was amputated on 9/17. This little pup is resilient and so amazing. You can tell she feels so much healthier without her leg (she really only used it for a kickstand from time to time). She plays full speed like any other dog with four legs. Once she gets her basic obedience down, the sky is the limit for this little lady. We can’t wait to see her fall in love with her forever home, she’s a tough foster to let go.
You can meet Harper in person on 10/3 at Nokomis Tattoo from 1-3 PM. If you’re interested in adoption, please fill out an application at www.mnpitbull.com so we can arrange her meeting with you.
