Meet Hansel
Hansel and his friend, Gretel, were once owned by a homeless woman living in a van. When she suddenly had a stroke and became incapacitated, Hansel, Gretel, and eight other dogs living in the van were confiscated and brought to Riverside Shelter.
Hansel loves being held. Poor guy, he should be 3-5 pounds lighter than he is, and that's a lot when you're a 12 pound dog! He came to us huffing and losing color, but diagnostics show that he her no common underlying conditions that would cause this. Hycoden has helped to control his breathing so he takes that with breakfast and dinner.
Hansel is finally gaining confidence to wander, and comes when called. He shares his food and bed well with his friend, Gretel. Kisses are offered once trust is earned by both, and then they are endless!
We would prefer to place Hansel with Gretel, as they seem very happy together. Gretel has a strange deformity to her back end causing her to hop and sometimes drag her back legs. We don't let her scoot too far, as we carry her often. She always wants to be where the action is! She nudges our hand for pets, and paws at us when we try to pet another dog.
The two are like animated cottonballs that glom onto your clothing and never want to be apart from you.
