Meet Guner

Guner the chihuahua hasn't had a simple life. After living at an animal shelter in Nebraska for the first 8 years of his life, we brought him to Heartland in hopes of finding his forever home. He was in a foster home with his dedicated foster mom and her other dogs, and he finally got adopted by a very loving woman.

Sadly, after 4 years with her, his owner passed away and we were so sad for Guner, who was welcomed right back to his foster home from before he was adopted.

He is 14 years old now, but still the same little guy we love! Guner can be nervous with new people, usually men, and does seem to warm up to females quicker. That doesn't mean a man can't win him over, though, it just may take him more time! He does prefer to be around adults only, because they are generally calmer and more predictable. He can be a nervous little guy. He is a little nervous about being picked up, but when he knows it is time, he hunkers down and allows his foster mom to pick him up, and then enjoys being carried around.

Guner loves other dogs, he lives with a small doxy foster sister, who he cuddles with on the couch! He has met big dogs and did well, too, just sometimes may bark at them. Guner does bark when he's feeling uncomfortable or has something to say, which is kind of often :) But, his bark isn't yappy, it's kind of hoarse, like an old man, and adorable and just makes us love him more. He will be a great "guard dog in the home.

Guner is doing well in his foster home. He is house-trained once he got settled in, he did do a little marking at first. He is crate trained and his pen, where he feels safe. His foster mom says he has access to free roam when she is home, but he prefers to lay in the pen or crate(open). He stays in his pen with no issues when she leaves.

Here is what his foster mom has to say about him, "Guner is a great boy. He is shy and will stay within his crate and pen. When he is put on the couch, he will relax and welcomes pets and belly rubs. He is very happy outside in the yard and will go outside anytime. His biggest joy is to get his harness on and go for walks.

Please inquire about Guner today, we love him and know you will, too!
