Gladys’ Story: She came from a very great family within the Lakota tribe in South Dakota. Her original family worked very hard to provide a program for Lakota children to gain confidence by riding horses. Gladys loved the atmosphere of being around all of the kids and the activity, but she chased the horses. Her chasing and playfulness spooked the horses, which was not ideal because of the importance of the program so it was decided that it would be safest for her to move to a more domestic setting.

Hobbies: Gladys loves walks! She is great on leash which makes her foster mom and dad ecstatic. She loves dog toys too, especially antlers, Kongs and tennis balls. Gladys especially loves when she gets to play with the toys with her big foster sister (85-pound pup).

Commands: Gladys is making progress on commands but could use a little help. She would love to have a family that will work with her consistently with her to learn the basics. Right now she is working on sit, down, and come.

Crate-trained and House-trained: Gladys is both crate and house-trained. She is a little vocal when she first gets in to her crate but settles in fairly quickly. Sometimes she goes in there to take a nap all on her own! She is also house-trained – her foster family gives her many opportunities to be outside throughout the mornings and evenings (she is crated during the day) so she knows when to do her business.

Activity Level: She has a medium energy and will need physical and mental stimulation each day but she is easily satisfied and enjoys cuddling up too! She will admit that if she does not get exercise each day, she may seek out trouble…like chewing on my foster brother’s toys. But when she is walked, played with and socialized with another good pup, she is great!

Fun things Gladys does: She pounces when she is greeting her humans. She is just so excited to see people! If her humans squat down to her level, she will roll on her back and look for a belly rub. She is also loving the game fetch!

Who Gladys Currently lives with: She is living with her foster parents, a foster human one-year-old, and an 85-pound dog. She also gets to go to work with her foster mom and meet a lot of people and dogs there. She is pretty good and calm there, but sometimes she wants her foster mom to reassure her that she is in a safe place and to be sure nothing scary will happen with strangers. Basically, if she can be close to help introduce her to the new things going on, Gladys does great.

Gladys’ Ideal Family: She would love an active family! She enjoys the action of busy families and being included. She would really like a family that will invest the time and patience into training her so that she can be the best dog that she can be! She sometimes barks at passing dogs, but other than that she is a quiet pup.

Additional Comments: A note from her Foster Momma -- Gladys is quick to adapt and a happy girl! She is still a puppy (1.5 years) and in her puppy-mentality she benefits greatly from structure and exercise. We stress the exercise and stimulation because she is a better pup when she gets that. She listens better, doesn’t look for trouble, and she seems to be all-around more comfortable.

Gladys will be attending Pet Haven's adoption events. Her adoption fee is $320 (cash or check only) and includes spay/neuter, heartworm check, current vaccinations, and microchip and registration.

Due to post-adoption services provided, it is Pet Haven's policy to only place dogs into homes within a 60-mile radius of the Twin Cities area.
